Has anyone had any issues activating their watch on Verizon? I ran into a problem when trying to setup the cellular plan. I kept getting an error “Incompatible device” message when signing into my Verizon account. The ICCID on the box was 32 digits.

Don’t worry about scratches, you wouldn’t want to use the watch more than 2 years too. It’s outdated pretty fast.

They won’t allow us to make our own custom faces, because there’ll be hermes custom faces all over the place with the hermes fake bands from ebay.

Do you even have a point. What's your goal in being here? Proven you can lie? Pushing buttons? Etc?
If being around Apple is such a burden to you I'm sure there are plenty of really bad watches by other parties you can buy to assuage your constant revulsion. There are also plenty of Apple haters support group for people who feel exactly like you do.

Apple has left out significant complications, including Maps, Messages and Phone from being available on a couple of the new Watch faces, including "Infograph" and "Infograph Modular". It seems strange that Apple would leave out such critical apps from being available as complications on these new watch faces.

Apple today began shipping the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 out to customers today, and customers have been eagerly awaiting their shipments today to get their hands on Apple's newest devices.

We picked up one of the new wrist-worn devices to see the design changes for ourselves and to provide a glimpse at the new device to MacRumors readers who are either awaiting their orders or who are still on the fence about making a purchase.

Apple Watch Series 4 has a little bit bigger footprint but is slightly thinner than Apple Watch Series 3, and the larger display (35% larger on the 40mm watch and 32% larger on the 44mm watch) is the first thing you'll notice about the updated models.

Yes, the Apple Watch no longer comes in 38 and 42mm sizes - it's 40 and 44mm now. In the video, the watch we're demonstrating is the larger 44mm model, but for those of you getting a 40mm model, it's worth noting that the 40mm screen is bigger than the screen of the original 42mm Apple Watch.

The new display of the Apple Watch Series 4 is a hugely welcome change because it offers up much more area for apps and complications on watch faces. Series 4 comes with a unique Infograph watch face and the new Vapor, Fire/Water, and Liquid Metal watch faces were built for the device and fill up the entire screen.

Inside, the Apple Watch Series 4 has a new S4 chip that's twice as fast as the S3 chip in the Series 3, and the back of the device has been improved with a black ceramic and sapphire crystal backing. All Apple Watches now have this feature, which improves cellular connectivity by allowing radio waves to penetrate the front and back.

Stainless steel Series 4 models are using sapphire glass, which is resistant to scratching from everyday wear, while all aluminum models continue to offer Ion-X glass, which isn't quite as scratch resistant.

New this year is a gold shade, which matches well with the new gold color available for the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. Apple has also introduced an ECG feature, but it can't be tested because it's not rolling out until later this year.

Apple Watch Series 4 models sold out quickly after pre-orders began on September 14, and orders placed today won't ship out until October.

Did you get a new Apple Watch Series 4? Let us know what you think in the comments.

The sapphire glass on my Series 0 is now 3.5 years old and still looks brand new. I was thinking of going aluminum for a Series 4 and saving a few hundred bucks, but I am concerned about the durability of Ion-X glass. What's the user experience with this glass?

You'll get microabrasions 100%.

My series 3 has one decent scratch on it and a couple of other marks on the edge where the glass curves. Even the decent scratch requires a special angle and light to be visible against the phone's black face. It would never be visible during use.
But I obviously only had this for a year. If you want to get 3+ years of daily wear out of Series 4, and you are a bit picky about scratches, then I think you have to go steal and get the sapphire. And do consider that the larger screen face of 44m is more screen to scratch, though it also sticks out a bit less.

Personally though, I'd rather save the money. So I've bought an aluminum 4 and will take my chances. I'm also expecting to replace the 4 with whatever is released in 2020 (if not next year's model).

Side note, I felt like getting a 4 when I have a 3 was a bit of a splurge. After having the 4 for one day, I feel this was money well spent for something I use daily. It is a significant upgrade. Hence, I may put the watch on a yearly update schedule.

This is just getting plain silly.

"it's worth noting that the 40mm screen is bigger than the screen of the original 42mm Apple Watch"

how can a 40mm 'screen' be bigger than 42mm 'screen'?

Apparently the physical case size itself hasn't changed, only the actual viewable screen (due to smaller bezels), which has increased the respective viewable screen sizes from 38 to 40 and 42 to 44?

Even the sapphire glass on the Apple Watch isn't truly sapphire glass. It's embedded into normal glass in small amounts. It's only slightly better than Ion-X, but not much. On the Mohs scale, the Ion-X will scratch at a level 6 and guess what... the Apple Watch's Sapphire screen scratches at 6 too, it's just less visible. Real sapphire screens scratch at 8. Tissot watches for example scratch at 8.

See here:
I was at the local Apple store last night to look at the new watch. I have the series 0 and need to upgrade. My wife was with me and inadvertently dropped one the new watches. If fell on the hard floor at the store and shattered. I would have not expected to shatter like that.

A picture would be worth a thousand words.

Aluminum Series 2 owner.
Have had to replace the glass twice since I purchased.
Same thing both times - after doing yard work I looked at my watch and it was cracked - never felt it happen.
Definitely buying the Stainless with the Sapphire glass.

Once you have the SS model it's tough to go to the aluminum ones. When I upgraded my S0 to the S2 I tried but failed to accept the aluminum one as a viable choice. The SS one is really just nicer.
Stainless is certainly better-looking, but the heavier metal means vibration alerts are muffled

Went to find out about wife’s 38mm GPS+Phone S3 replacement still pending on replacement for over 14 days. After a few escalations at the store (and having went thru an hour over the phone with Apple tech support before going to the store), we ended up coming home with a brand new S4. Too bad they took trade in value ($225) versus replacement invoice value ($299), but a happy wife makes me happy. And hearing a few stories on how dissatisfied people on the pre-orders were with the global system unavailability.

Verizon activated with zero issues, the system asked if we were replacing old device by the new one - and showed up all the new one details. It really feels smoother than the old S3 or my Nike S3, and definitively more colorful with the new Modular choices. Liked the extra real state on the screen, but because of that, she feels the watch is way bigger than it really is - but it is just a matter of get used.

What things specifically do you think makes the Series 4 much better than the Series 3? I went from a Series 0 to 4, and the speed increase was a dramatic improvement. I’m on the fence getting a Series 4 because I’m not sure it would be that big of an upgrade.

The physical case size has changed, from 38mm tall to 40mm tall, et al. The 40mm has smaller bezels than the 38mm or 42mm had, therefore the 40mm has a slightly larger active display area than the 42mm watch.

Where’s the confusion here?

Got mine today. Coming from a series 0 to series 4 the performance is incredible. With the series 0 always had to wait for apps to load up which was okay for me. The original series 0 set up took ages but straight out of the packaging Series 4 set up took less than 5 minutes. Everything seems more snappier which you would expect. The difference in performance though is significant for those coming from series 0/1. Went also for the bigger screen and even though I have small wrists I like the new form factor. Opted for the watch complication show at the keynote event and like the amount of information quickly at hand. Everything is easy to read and accessible. Raise to speak or see information on the watch is very speedy. So far initial impressions are very positive and looking forward to checking out it on a run or at the gym. Also, will start using it to store podcasts/music as didn’t use that feature on series 0 though not sure if will use this feature as always have my iPhone with me but as it has GPS will be able to use it for running without the need to have my iPhone with me.

I JUST got notification that my SS 4, which was to arrive between Oct. 5 and 12, will be delivered Monday! Can't wait--I will be traveling for work that day but home in the evening and I re-scheduled delivery to my neighbor, who will be home to receive it. (Though he warned me he might "lose" a package from Apple, lol).

YAY!!

I was able to activate it from the watch app in my iPhone, in the cellular data section.

Same here. S0 to S4 and speed is amazing and the main thing I notice.

Not having much luck with raise to speak, though.

Lol calm down, it was a misunderstanding from your side. I meant the apple watch technology gets better every year or 2 years, much much better and I wouldn’t want to keep my apple watch for 3 years straight because I’ll be missing a lot of speed and features. So my point is, I don’t worry about scratches on my non-sapphire glass apple watch because I would’ve already replaced it with the new apple watch every year or 2 years.

And about not being able to make our own custom faces, as a matter of fact I agree with apple on this one, because it brings the exclusivity of the watch face such as the hermes one and I don’t want people that have the hermes edition can be easily copied by someone with a regular ss apple watch and all they gonna do is buying a replica of the hermes watch band in ebay.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I’m pro apple, otherwise I’m not gonna be here.

Went from a 44m S0 to a 40mm S4. Same style, aluminum. Am using the modular infograph face, i cant read my appointments on the other.
Love it!

A few apps dont work. Weather is inconsistent. It mostly displays —

Biggest bummer is my watch no longer unlocks my MacBook Pro on Sierra. Surprising how much i liked that feature. Not sure I’m brave enough yet to upgrade to Mojave just to get that back.

Funny, I just said I've been wearing my Series 0 for three and half years. If I felt it was outdated I would have replaced it already.

Sorry I didn’t realize that. I think I’ll be missing out a lot of features by upgrading only once in every 3 years. But that’s just me though.
