Does anyone know what that globe icon in the top left of the modal does?
Its not clear for me by just looking at it... has anyone tried?
It picks a different numbering system!

Call me conservative but I preferred the time when good designers just came up with the best idea. I don’t believe this level of aesthetic customisation is necessary at all for the average user.
Functionally it would make sense (being able to change the flashlight button etc.). But why should users be able to pick fonts? Couldn’t Apple just choose the best one?
I agree with this. Most of these fonts are ugly. This wouldn't have happened in the Steve days. Tim's Apple is more like the parent that gives is and lets a kid buy a candy bar at checkout, even if it's not good for them. Steve was great at ignoring the whining.

You know about that trick, right?

You can add the words Apple doesn't like auto-correcting each as contacts and then suddenly they don't auto "un-correct" the words whenever you are using them.
Settings -> General -> Keyboards -> Text Replacement
You can add whatever words you want here without ducking up your contacts. 😎

So no iPad lockscreen updates ?

And neither is multitasking coming to the iPad mini. Honestly this sucks !
You have a Mini. Different use case from the Pro.

It appears Apple is going the route of Pro devices getting more powerful applications and complex UI, while keeping the standard iPad and Mini's to the more simplified experience as some seem to prefer here on MR.

Personally I think this is the right thing to do. Grandparents get the simplified traditional version of the OS and people that need to do more get what they need/want.

The split between the two isn't that big a difference now, but I expect to see that to change even more in iPad OS 17 and beyond.

The customizations are still going to be limited to select fonts apple chooses that will look good and they’ll even limit the levels of customization based on combinations you choose, as in limiting your access to font colour when using a colourful image. It’s all still very apple and the average consumer will probably do little to nothing with these settings anyway.
But they don't look good.

Probably more battery drain as well.

Actually battery drain is minimal.

The point is not that I have a better setup than you or anyone else here. It is that we should have the option to configure our devices as we see fit.

When they told us they were splitting iPadOS to make it better... then they just use it as an opportunity to not update it with critical feature changes... but we have weather now! so in another 16 versions we should get the Lock Screen updates...

You can. But you have to go into the settings app under wallpaper.
I think it is a glitch b/c sometimes it reflects what I chose and other times it is something different. I am not sure yet if it is something that I am doing or just a glitch in the beta.

Good Lock is an official Samsung app not a work around. Also as it's Android you can get it in any region quite easily.

By work around I’m talking needing to download an app. This will just work without needing to do so. Good lock believe it or not is restricted in some regions. Not everywhere can download it. Even with good lock widgets aren’t possible on the Lock Screen nor can it get the information Lock Screen notifications would provide once developers update their apps later on in the year.

Samsung overall is clearly still better for Optimisation but this is a good step for apple in doing more

You say it like it's a huge advantage. For people that want the ultimate customisation it's definitely not a burden at all or a work around, people that don't want it, its just one more thing that doesn't need to take space in their phones.

I didn't say it's not, just that it's not a big deal as any Samsung user can install Good lock as an apk and use it even if it's not officially available in their region.

Samsung phones have lock screen widgets without Good lock. It's quite an old feature actually.

Horrible font choices, no option for resize these fonts, only one picture for both lock and home screen, limited count of widgets and no choice of placement for any of the items (date/time/sunset/sunrise, clock, widgets) other than wherever Apple felt like should be. For a oh-so-much-praised-revamped-redesigned-new Lock Screen, as is, looks like garbage and a move backwards. Great ideas, sub-par implementation.
Wow

Probably coz the new Pro’s are expected to drop down to 1hz so to conserve battery power
Samsung has had it for ages, I don't know if it goes down to 1Hz but my S10+ does not suffer from an additional battery drain from what I can tell. It allows me to schedule the AON to turn off not to bother me during sleeping hours as well. Apple is consciously and notoriously behind customization.
