There’s quite a few members who scored the new iPhone SE for ~$200 from Walmart with a sale/promotion, and for that price, ‘that’s a lot’ of phone. I think the new SE is going to be very successful across the world, not just because of the $399 price point, but because of the beloved 4.7 inch form factor. It’s comfortable enough one-handed, but not too obtrusive in the pocket either.

Every time I read “low cost” I think to myself it’s not as good as a higher end iPhone. I know the SE is a great phone but so is the iPhone pro. $400.00 vs $1200.00 Apple is to blame for some of this...for pricing their phones too high when the X came out. Now we have “low cost” iPhones.
Yeah, I miss it when the only options were size, color and capacity. Not different tiers. With that being said, the new SE definitely gets the job done if you’re still cool with the 2014 design and don’t mind the lack of FaceID.

I like the red too, but wonder if I would get tired of it because it's too "loud".
To be honest, I always use cases so it's not like I'll see much of the chassis color. With all SE2 bezels being black, this time around, I didn't really care what chassis I got.

Chose the Red mostly since Apple's donating part of the proceeds for anti-COVID-19 research. Was planning on getting another Red for my mom but stock was very hard to come by at Walmart. I ended up buying her the White 128GB AT&T version as it was the only 128GB AT&T available while I was ordering.

The lineup was certainly a lot simpler back then.

high-end: latest model

mid-range: last year's model

entry-level: last, last year's model

Given I'd rather not go bigger than iPhone 6(s)/7/8 size and I'd prefer to see the notch greatly reduced before going FaceID, I'm happy the SE2 is available.

So how are you FaceID fans liking that tech in the new era of face masks?

I have to wear gloves and a facemark at work so..

I wish the front color matched, I love white Apple devices. I think this phone is priced perfect. Definitely going to grab 1 to replace moms 6s and my aging work 8. I might another one just as a backup and trade in my 7 I used as a back up to my XS.

The news writer isn’t even reading Macrumors articles, apparently.
How can you say it is the same camera module of iPhone 8 when there is a tear down video on this very website showing a physically different camera module ??? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I am gonna go over to my AT&T store and pick one up today, just a work phone so 64GB will suit me fine!

If wearing gloves how does TouchID work.

If you are wearing gloves to avoid covid-19, you shouldn’t be touching your phone at all.

I grew to hate the iPhone 6 design for the many many years it was on the market as 6S, 7, 8 and now SE. Thick bezels make it physically larger for its small screen size.

I would have loved to see Apple actually make a smaller, proper budget phone rather than recycling its old crap. I don't see any point in buying the SE when 200 euros more buys the iPhone XS in my country. I have the XS and it's just a much, much better phone as an overall package.

More expensive phone is better than a cheaper phone? I think you have stumbled onto something big here.

Ooo! Ooo! Wear both!! Then whatever shall we do? It’ll be like the “before” times... just skip passcode and biometrics entirely! Hah. Crush the market for Cellebrite at the same time. 😆

Voice commands to Siri to unlock with iPhone 12 new biometric feature “VoiceID“.

You: “Siri unlock phone”
Siri: Searching Porn

Tim Cook: We introduce iPhone 12 with an anti-bacteria and anti-viral coating to protect you against pathogens.

Works pretty well.

You are aware you can store more than 1 scan of your face, right?

Did that already as a wearer of glasses - 1 with, 1 without, now simply add 1 with hash. Done.

You don’t need to wear face masks working from home you know...or drinking a beer in the garden.

When my wife goes shopping you will see 2-3 tops wearing masks....so it’s not that common for people to be wearing them here.

Nice try.

Glasses don't matter. I wear glasses and my iPhone 11 unlocks with or without them.

A mask is a different story. I just tried to set up an alternate appearance with a mask covering my nose and mouth and it says "Face obstructed. Try removing anything covering your face." It won't work.

Look, you can even see them in my photo!
I found FaceID greatly improved accuracy when I trained it both with and without - trained only with and it often wouldn’t work without.

And I did a train with a facemask, it happily accepted it and now works nicely in all 3 scenarios.

The first few days, I thought I couldn’t get Face ID to recognize me while not wearing glasses, but then I realized what it was: not wearing glasses naturally meant I was holding my phone a lot closer, and holding it a little further away while unlocking does the trick.

Mask, though? Yeah, so far no dice.

You know, I remember Nokia phones costing around $400. For HD touch screen, Wifi 6, touchID,A13, 64GB local storage, you really can't complain. Price to option ratio is crazy good.

Pre-ordered one, and had it delivered to my friend's house as I wasn't home during the delivery window. Still haven't had the chance to pick it up from him.

I'm one of the holdouts clutching to TouchID, so this should work out for me. It's not what I truly want, which is a full-screen device with TouchID ability, but it's the closest I can get. A13+gigabit LTE+WiFi 6 are big selling points.

Looking forward to its improvements over the 7, and to the $120 once that 7's trade-in processes.

I would love to hear about your experience, I am going through the same upgrade path and wondering if I will feel a difference

Ive never turned FaceID on once or even set it up on my 1.5 yr old XR. I’ve been wearing masks over my face for 5-6 years every day for work. I never used Touch ID either.

Passcode is always the best bet.

Got mine last week, been using it for a few days now, it's nice to have a phone that doesn't feel like the OS is wading through molasses. The biggest issue is the lack of Force/3D Touch: Without the Home Bar-thing (from newer phones), there's no quick way to "alt-tab" to the last used app. That's missing functionality I used many times per day.

It's a decent enough upgrade for me but it's still disappointing in the ways the 7 and 8 were. It's a stain on the "SE" name (of which I was a massive fan of) but hopefully non-SE fans enjoy it for a more accessible phone for which you don't have to remortgage the house.
