Ads and junk ? I’m not really sure what you’re talking about here.. I switched to iPhone recently and have always used Android phones, never saw anything like that.

You must be talking about very old and cheap Android phones because clearly those wouldn’t be as good as a +1000$ Flagship in the same price range as an iPhone and might have some bloatware installed on them. Even the mid-range ones are pretty good enough for the price they offer nowadays.

I’m not trying to be an Android defender here, but this whole “Android is trash” thing has to stop. We are not talking about Android from 2013 anymore. You’ll not see any ads and junk on an Android phone nowadays unless you bought it for 50$ from Wish.com
Junk as in writing or modifying the base code. Samsung does it and so do a lot of other manufacturers. The cleanest OS I have seen so far was on a Nokia and it ran super fast. I don't need a Bixby when there is already Google Assistant and I don't need Samsung Pay when they already have Google Pay. These are just a few of the things that annoy me with Android. I like configuration in the design but I would rather let them leave it up to the user to make changes or add apps that are not wanted.

Some of the Chinese made phones are nice but they have to go and mess about with a system that already works

Oh so I'm guessing you're talking about the service apps that each Android manufacturer offers with their phones, right ? Well, you don't have to use them. They come pre-installed on the phone just like how you get some service apps made by Apple pre-installed on any iPhone, for example : Apple Music, Books, Apple TV app, etc.

And the Google apps always come pre-installed since Android is made by Google, while every Android manufacturer has their own skin of Android in addition to some service apps offered by the company itself such as the Samsung apps for example. They have to add something different to their UI to make it distinctly different from the Stock Android, so that's why they come with those apps. But it's up to you if you don't wanna use them and you can uninstall them if you don't need them. I was not using the Samsung apps back when I was using their phones as I preferred the Google apps, so I basically uninstalled them and I also turned off Bixby since it's actually really bad not gonna lie. Google assistant is so much better.

On the other hand, the only Android skin that comes only with the Google apps would be the Stock Android offered by Google in their Pixel phones.
