Considering how most Android phones have followed the notch trend, it’s nice to see a company taking a different approach, even if the motorised camera idea is nothing new.

Does the ‘chin’ and resulting lack of symmetry on almost every Android bother anyone else, though?

So a slight difference in bezel size on the forehead and chin triggers one’s asymmetry OCD but a huge notch across two thirds of the top doesn’t?

Moving parts? No thanks. Oh, and it runs Android? Pass.

Seriously? Those are the two main things you took away from this? A moving part and the ever so tired and close-minded “It runs Android lol so no thanks” response?

What about it having an actual full screen with no hideous notch with a 90Hz refresh rate, 6-12 gigs of RAM, and being touted as the fastest Android phone from various reviewers... all at a low $650 price point?

Someone may need to do a DFMEA on this.
What happens when the phone slips out of hand when taking selfie with the motorized camera stuck out?

The camera quickly slips back into the case before hitting the floor. There are a few YouTube videos showing this.

Very nice design. I personally can’t stand curved screens and these are very noticeable so those alone would eliminate this device for me.

Flatten that display out though, and add some water/dust resistance certification and that’s another story...

This and the S10/S10+ really show how kind of embarrassing it has become; from innovator to regurgitator. And this is coming from an iPhone user since the 3GS.

Adding a 3rd camera, and faster processor for a 3rd straight year with no design changes and a huge notch, is not innovative. Face ID or not. You are telling me in 3 model years, into 2020 with this fall's model, they can't figure out how to shrink the notch significantly or figure something else out? (like move the earpeice into the top frame and push the sensors/camera to the middle)

It is highly disappointing to see a company like Apple not able to innovate anymore. Regurgitating designs with a faster CPU and better camera(s) each year isn't interesting anymore. It's certainly not making people buy new phones/upgrade.

And this is 60% the cost of my current base 64gb XS Max; that's sad.

Not a fan of moving parts but never take selfies so not a real issue. Nor a fan of curved screens. But may be looking elsewhere from iOS this year if the rumors hold up as they tend to do by this time of year. Apple isn't pushing tech forward anymore like others are doing.

The phone is waterproof just not officially certified. The certification is a useless expense just for marketing and pushing up the price. Apple phones are certified but they will refuse any warranty claims for phones that have been in water, so it's meaningless.

Grrrrrr......iMessage lock in....it's the only thing stopping me from picking up a second, Android device. Does anyone use an iOS and Android device with the same phone line? Is it relatively easy to swap out? My understanding is iMessage really screws up the ability to seamlessly switch SIMs.

“It's a feature that's unique to the OnePlus device”? No way, Xiaomi patented this idea on 2015, last year Vivo already released multiple models of phones featuring pop-up camera!

It runs Android. That's a serious problem.

It doesn't have wireless charging or any water proofing. A "hideous notch" is your opinion just like a "hideous" pop up camera would be mine.

RAM specs mean nothing. It's all about resource management.

A phone is about more than just specs, such as software updates, ecosystem, support, security, etc. Not everything desirable about a phone will be found in a spec sheet, but since that's all you understand, the iPhone has better:
  • Cameras
  • Silicon
  • Facial recognition hardware
  • Build quality
From a non hardware perspective, iPhone has better:
  • Image processing
  • Software
  • Support
  • Security
  • Resale value
  • Apps

It has far better software, support, and build quality. The iPhone will also have a higher resale value.

It does have waterproofing. Wireless charging is just a "spec". USB-C and warp charging is far better.

The resale value of our iPhone won't even begin to cover the Apple tax you paid to have it in the first place.

This phone has everything I want, except iOS. If I did not have >15 Apple devices at home, I'd try it.

I returned my X because I could not get over the notch, and FaceID was slow, and I needed multiple users (kids) on my phone.

The phone has motion sensors and accelerometers that will retract the camera before it hits the ground.

There's a demo of it in MKBHD's video review.

Though I guess it all depends on how high the phone is when it falls. Still it's cool that they though of it!

So I can't take a selfie video on a roller coaster without the camera popping back in? :(
