So, unless I'm missing something it looks like you can only PIP video content..for example if you AirPlay a video from your iPhone or iPad, you can PIP, but if you just screen mirror from an iOS device you cannot PIP. Likewise, you can only PIP a video playing in an Apple TV app (that has implemented the tvOS 14 player API), not any random Apple TV app. This is disappointing, it would have been great to be able to pull up a radar app in PIP during a severe weather situation, or a statistics website in PIP sent over screen mirroring from your iPad during a football game or auto race on TV. Hopefully Apple will build on this and allow basically anything to be PIP'd, or at the very least, Screen Mirroring to be PIP'd

The content companies and the cable companies both have to play ball, and most do not like to give Apple *any* control. This is mostly out of Apple's hands

It has to use the latest video player API for tvOS 14. If they use a custom player or haven't updated for tvOS 14, it won't have the proper controls. It's not going to be premium, and doesn't require anything extra special from Apple to the devs, it just has to be a proper tvOS 14 app
But can they make it premium? If they have the ability to do so they will.

4K YouTube. About bloody time. This went on long enough. So deceiving buying a Apple TV 4K, watching content tagged as 4K on YouTube and getting served 1080p content

It must be painful being unable to watch "Best Funny Dogs 🐶 And Cats 😹 Of The Month -Try Not To Laugh" in 4K 😂

Same here, as we speak, I see only spatial audio with iPhone and iPad and do not know why it couldn't work on Apple TV4K...
Regards

Where are you seeing spacial audio? I have iPadOS 14 on my Pro, but don't see anything about using spacial audio when hooked up to my Airpods Pro. Is it not in yet or where do I turn it on?

so far the public beta has been running pretty stable. Nothing has crashed or not worked (3 hrs of testing)

Based on the WWDC presentation, I seem to recall that Spatial Sound for AirPod Pro’s works in conjunction with the accelerometers on the iPad/iPhone to help orientate the sound position relative to your head and the device in your hands. So not sure how that would work on an ATV located on a shelf or similar.

But can they make it premium? If they have the ability to do so they will.

Sure, I guess they could, but the requirement that they use the new API has nothing to do with that, it's a new feature, Apple can't force it backwards without potentially breaking stuff

Please Apple fix the brutal bugs in the Apple TV app and dial-down the amount of ads aka promotional blocks.

Library tab does not work for large libraries. Watch Now is mostly ads to buy services and things you don’t want.

Very tacky. Not Apple.

:apple: need to fix the search screen. Without your iphone near by, it's painful to go letter to letter and the voice command is just trash.

Considering that they made background play of the iOS YouTube app a subscription fee I see no reason for them not to charge for PiP on tvOS.

Sweet! I’ll be able to view my Ring cameras and control my Nest Thermostat from my Apple TV. Oh wait, no I won’t.

Didn’t they announce at WWDC that Apple coordinated with Google and Amazon on some sort of universal integration? Kinda took that as it should work with Nest and Ring.

Why would expect to use devices that are not homekit compatible? Obviously they wont work.

Try homebridge or HOOBS. There are plugins for Nest and Ring.

I can view the camera in my Ring Doorbell on the Home widget on tvOS 14. I can't control Nest directly, as the Home widget seems to be Scene-based, not device.

Maybe someday they will have software or hardware that supports 24.000 and 60.000 FPS since a lot of content is now released on those frame rates. They could also fix their garbage Dolby Vision implementation.

a HomeKit doorbell? LMFAO

whyyyyy havent they gotten rid of the log in screens where you have to go to the networks website and put in a code...what happened to that and why hasn't it been done yet?

The content owners and networks want you to log into each app. They have access to zero sign in. But 🍎 can force them to use it.

PIP feature is certainly nice but the current UI implementation is terrible and from the video it doesn't look like they are changing it. PIP icon comes up and gets highlighted every single time I touch the touchpad when watching a movie. It has to be constantly dismissed which is rather tricky to do. Drives me up the wall.

As much as I like using my AppleTV, I don't care which device it's on... I hate picture in picture... even on Youtube.

everything seems to be going that way anyway.. it'll make Apple users happy if one ever does come out.

I bought an Apple TV 4th generation, and found that Siri Remote and the User Interface such a bloomin' mess, than I activated my free one-year Apple TV Plus subscription , then promptly went back to my Apple TV 3 (where the Plus subscription works without any problem) and the aluminum remote. Sorry, folks. That remote and that interface needs to be totally renovated -- I don't care how much TVos releases there are; until Apple fixes those 2 mess-takes, I'll stick with Apple TV 3.

You know what? Watching a TV show shouldn't be a complicated run-around fiasco that ends up with you throwing the remote across the room.

I thought exactly the same when I first got mine. For months I was swearing at the stupid swipe interface and how long / clunky it was to get to an app.

Then one way I realised my mistake.

You don't have to swipe!

You literally tap left, right, top or down (without actually clicking, just a light tap) and it's like having the silver directional arrows again of the old remote. I felt so so so stupid and so so so happy in equal measure when I realised I don't have to do any swiping at all!

Not sure if you suffered the same mistake or not, which is why I share this :)

I much prefer the new touch remote. After a small learning curve it feels great to use. Swiping is a pleasure. Slap a silicone case on it and the ergonomics are almost perfect.

My only wish Is that it had a way to mute. Lol.

Depending on your AVR or TV, sometimes long press of volume down or double tap of volume down triggers the mute function of the device it is connected to.

Meh. Fairly overrated if you ask me. I have an actual NVR system and the ability to see feeds on my Mac, iPhone, iPad...or on any TV the NVR unit is connected to. But I never use it that way.

I'm guessing this is one of those features you really want or just go meh. Personally I would never use it, but otehrs may differ. The only time I have bothered to watch a camera feed is when I kep[t getting notifications late at night and discovered it was caused by a bat flying around.

As someone who watches sports I find adding PIP will be useful, as my TV does not have it and this will let me track a second game; depending on its implementation.

My biggest gripe is the sensitivity. My dachshund has apparently learned she can change the app by putting her paw on the remote...

I just wish I didn't have to relogin everytime an app is updated.

Installed the beta yesterday. Seems fine, not that different, and disappointing that 4K isn't supported in YouTube yet (although I guess not too surprising given that Google will probably need to update the app). This morning however, YouTube has started acting up. It will play a video (if I search for it) but it won't let me navigate anywhere, it just freezes. The App Store also gives me an endless spin wheel. Anyone else?

The silicone cases are dirt cheap on eBay - perfect fit and highly recommended.

im disappointed in your lack of HomeKit scenes and running macrumors. Do you not use HomeKit at all?
