I still have mine. No computers with s FireWire port.

I actually found an adaptor that I use with my Mac Mini for Firewire. I was so jazzed when I went to the Palo Alto store and bought mine. Still works today. I charge it up every so often and play with just for the heck of it.

I missed out on buying the last iPod Classic just because. I still think that Apple is missing the boat, because with them pushing Apple Music, there is no low priced iPod, with even the iPod touch still starting at $200. I bought one recently, more or less as I thought it too, would be gone. Added it to my collection of iPod original, iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano 4th Gen with all still working.

I LOVED my iPod... what was it, third generation, with the touch wheel and the light-up red buttons? Had a remote adapter on the headphones and it came with a dock and a protective pleather case. Those were the days.
Also looking at that original iPod reminds me of an underrated and sort of revolutionary design choice they later made- moving the headphone jack to the bottom of the iPod/iPhone. Seems so obvious now.
[doublepost=1540356530][/doublepost]Would've been nice if they would've kept the non-proprietary firewire connection.

I miss my 160GB iPod Classic. I was so hoping for a 320GB version so I could put all my music at full 256kbps. That never happened.

I wish the iPod Touch was still a thing (why does Apple keep selling this severely outdated item) because I'd love to get one for a small child.
The ipod touch IS still a thing...? You can get one anywhere

I have about 400GB of FLAC files I would love to put on a dedicated portable music player. Unfortunately Apple doesn't make such a beast anymore, or ever supported FLAC.

There are times you just want a single purpose device that's really good at one thing. The iPod was that device.. now they're only interested in sticking a digital swiss army knife in your pocket that's a "jack of all trades, master of none".

I wanted an iPod as a kid for so long but didn’t get one until I got my first job. I saved up and bought the clip iPod shuffle.

Used it everyday. A year or so later i got a mini as a gift. Still got them in the boxes and they still work.

Easily solved if Apple just added a microsd expansion slot to their phones.

Of course, they don't respect you as a consumer, so you can forget about them ever doing the right thing.

still got mine. still works too, amazingly, but the battery aint what it used to be. man i miss that physical scroll wheel, that thing was neat.

Most people have outdated iPhones to give to their children these days. I’d never buy an iPod touch for a child.

IPod the beginning of what was to come
How smart Steve Jobs was to take away from Sony (the Walkman) and change the idea into a truly transportable device that would lead to iphone. Great Innovative!!

Apple bet the ranch on music and the iPod, while Microsoft bet on a watch, the SPOT (as in: Smart Personal Object Technology). One product line was a runaway success that eventually led to the iPhone, and the other was a dismal failure.

can we ever celebrate a success story without always the need to put another company down?? you must be those who bring up politics out of nowhere too

Just watched a 9 minute clip of the keynote on youtube...... my how things have changed when it comes to reveals.
Hey does anyone know what happened to the EverySteveJobsKeynote guy? I went to his Youtube page and 99% of his stuff is gone.

Oddly enough, Apple added FLAC support to iPhone 7+ in iOS 11. It's awkward to do so because you need to use notes or the files app.

No, these XS XR can't replace ipod. No Audio grade DAC, no 3.5mm, no hires audio BT codec. No where to match legendary Ipod in term of audio performance.

Amazing product that started it all.

Little known fact: Tim Cook cornered the storage market that locked out competitors from competing with the fast storage found in iPod.

He was the genius behind the iPod execution.

Cool! Do you have proof? Would love to read that! Interesting

The iPod saved Apple, it created a halo effect which made people buy their computers.

*sigh* Back in the day when Apple didn't ship junk. I really miss 10 years ago.

I had the original iPod. It would create quite a stir when I showed it to people. The industrial design was so good. Younger folks may not realize, but mainstream computer stuff just was not designed that sleek back then. It looked like an ice cream bar to people.
I did the big process of ripping all my CDs and putting them on my iPod. Those songs are still on my itunes and make the backbone of my music library on my current iPhone.

I remember showing people my 3rd gen, and some of the reactions were hilarious in hindsight. "I have a CD burner, why would I spend so much money on this?" "Do you really need all your songs at the same time, though?" "What's iTunes?"

A couple of years later, every single person in the world (it seemed like, at least) either owned one or wanted to own one.

Right. It was funny how some people really didn't understand what would be useful and nice to have.
