Hello from the other side of the globe where it's already 2018: like with the birthday notifications, there's a special Happy New Year notification in watchOS 4 that displays fireworks on the watch face :)

Happy New Year, everyone!

Interestingly the notification seems to persist through the 1st of January, as I can swipe down Notification Center and it's still there, and tapping it triggers the animation again. (... I hope this isn't actually a bug and it's going to be there forever :p)

Yep got that this morning when I work up along with a badge. Very nice looking fireworks on the watch face.

It's these really small but fun details that they add is what makes me love my watch and Apple, yet they still allow bugs such as everyone getting the 2018 achievement without it even being 2018 at the time.

There were fire works animations in iMessage if you messaged people happy new year.
Yeah I just did that a minute ago and then I saw your message here.

When you read that message on your watch, there are fireworks there as well.
