i just tried turning off 3d on my xs and i'm not a fan... def not upgrading this year. funny that this new "pro" screen that lacks this, aparently, amature function.

Wow, I didn’t know that. Thank you!

it seems iOS 13.1.1 or 13.1.2 changed the response time when dragging an app icon over a folder or another app would trigger a folder to open / create a new folder like on older versions. It’s so much better now.

The thing that bothers me about the removal of 3D Touch form the phones is now Apple's product lines operate inconsistently. The Apple Watch UI requires you to use 3D Touch to access functions in many apps.

So, now, the phone and the watch UIs behave differently for deeper functionality access. Very un-Apple like!

Obviously, the removal of 3D Touch was a cost savings measure.

I agree it had to be a cost issue but for a 1k+ phone it should have been included. Maybe left out of the lower end phones.

I think people that bought phones that have 3D Touch should file a class action lawsuit because iOS 13 completely ruined 3D Touch in favor of Haptic touch.

Why are so many people surprised and angry apple took away something you liked?
They just need something to complain about. 3D Touch was the most unused feature released and was never even available on the iPad. If this feature is so used, where have the complaints it’s not available on the iPad been for the past 4 or 5 years. They changed how it works slightly and those that never heard of it start whining because it changed for the sake of change. Those that did use it complain because the menu is different. It’s not like the feature is gone. They just changed how it functions. Seriously not as big of a deal as it’s made out to be on this thread.

Monday’s complaint was “These daily updates are out of control“ last I checked 3 updates in 9 days isn’t daily as I seem to be missing 6 updates for it to be daily.

There are some valid complaints for iOS 13. But Haptic Touch and updates to fix the real problems certainly aren’t valid complaints.

You can just drag cursor now on iOS 13. It’s A LOT easier.
That’s just a changed version of how it always was with the magnifier, which isn’t the same as using the trackpad functionality and isn’t really related to 3D Touch or Haptic Touch.

The underlying implication there being that somehow other companies don’t do something like that?

They just need something to complain about.
By that measure anything and everything anyone would complain anywhere at anytime would be that. Which is basically neither here nor there really.

I never liked 3D Touch. It never seemed to work correctly for me. The XR not having it was a contributing factor towards choosing it last year. I'm really happy that they're ditching it altogether now.

I’m not picking on you, but how did 3D Touch never really seem to ‘work correctly’ for you? Are you saying you didn’t understand how to use it or there was a potential flaw with your phone? Either way, 3D was a solid performer, it was executed perfectly, but marketed poorly, thus resulting in those who A.) Who didn’t understand how to use it and B.) Apple discontinuing it.

That’s exactly what people are doing complaining about everything. I just read a news article about viewers being outraged over the way a host of a TV show broke a KitKat bar and how wrong it was. Outraged... really! Over a KitKat bar? Ugh this world. So yeah they are complaining about anything and everything. It’s to the point people & corporations stop listening which becomes ineffective for solving real issues. Because no one knows what the real issues are.

anyone else hates the new implementation of folder peek? previously there were counts on the red badges, now there are just red dots. argh!

Haptic Touch is much easier to accidentally activate now.. The better battery life is a wash if you keep accidentally turning your LED light and camera on in your pocket

Well, just because there might be a whole range of things out there, doesn't mean that everything falls into just one part/side of it, even if a variety of things do. Again, that's all really neither here nor there.

iPhone XS Max here, and the Haptic Touch does feel like a downgrade from 3D Touch and I feel like going to iOS 13 gained some nice features like Dark Mode but really majorly sacrificed a feature that was iPhone-exclusive and was THE reason I always bought the top-of-the-line model over the cheaper models.

Haptic is slow as hell compared to 3D Touch. The only saving grace right now for me is 3D Touch still activates the things that haptic does (only twice as fast as Haptic). But we've lost peek/pop which I used all the time. Lost the ability to preview Podcast episode descriptions, which I used all the time. Lost the ability to use level 1 of 3D Touch to move the curser and then use a slightly harder push to begin highlighting (honestly, I didn't even know it had that ability until very recently because Apple never marketed it).

Definitely makes me want to steer clear of the new phones though. I feel like they just released the cheap versions this year. We'll see what next year brings.

My ‘work’ iPhone is the 8 Plus. Let me tell ya😁....

I use 3D Touch everyday. Peek/Pop for notifications/emails/third party apps/photos, ect. It’s a brilliant feature. The problem with 3D Touch on why it failed.....was because Apples lack there of marketing. Most consumers had no idea what 3D was or how to use it. And for those who actually understood 3D and how to execute it, appreciated for everything it had to offer. Apple dropped the ball per se, because if they actually had taken more initiative to make 3D Touch marketed properly, I think it would have had a larger welcoming of its intended features.

For a start they should’ve demonstrated it during the setup process like they do for other features: i.e. choosing a home button haptic response level; and default zoom for icons. But they didn’t.

on my iphone 7 even if indisable haptic and 3Dtouch (just one toggle) it's still active.

MAN I AM SO MAD THEY GOT RID OF 3D TOUCH! Sorry for the all caps but I'm pretty upset. Haptic doesn't work as well. Also how long have we been without the bubble popup when selecting text with your finger? I'm having hella trouble with this how.

I agree, 3D Touch worked great on my iPhone 7+. Now I am always activating Haptic Touch by accident. I guess I have a lazy finger that didn't leave the screen. It's a learning curve, need to be more cautious and aware of my fingers now. 3D Touch might have been too difficult, my experience with Haptic is it's too easy to activate; need something more neutral.

On a side note, selecting text is much harder now. I'm currently restoring my iOS 13.1.2 to see if it solves the many issues I'm experiencing... this should have been released in October, too many bugs Apple!

Can anyone confirm if the 3d touch app switcher (hard press on left hand side of screen) was removed on ios 13 for the older iphones like 6s,7 and 8. Im still on ios 12 and reluctant to update because of this as i use it all the time. Thanks in advance

I find it amusing how those who didn’t use or never liked 3D Touch are now going to tell those of us who did that we’re not missing anything. Oh and as far as it not being on the iPad? So what? iPhone doesn’t support the Apple Pencil. Not every product has to support every feature of another product. And I’m not even sure I would have liked 3D Touch on my 12.9” iPad Pro even if Apple found a way to implement it. The screen is too big. And I’m rarely holding the iPad in my hand when I’m using it.

An example of what really annoys me about losing 3D Touch: I’m so used to hard pressing instead of long pressing that I often end up turning something off rather than getting more controls. Like in control center: if you long press on the WiFi or Bluetooth you get more controls like airdrop and personal hotspot. With 3D Touch it was a hard press not a long press. My muscle memory still wants to hard press so often times I’m turning off WiFi or Bluetooth when i was just trying to get more controls. I’m sure eventually I’ll re-train myself but it’s annoying right now.

It’s still there.

just about everything 3D touch could do can be done with long touch.
3D touch was a gimmick from the start to claim "innovation"
3D touch has a certain intuitive feel and responsiveness to it. I've compared my iPhone 8 to an iPhone 11 and there is a subtle but noticeable difference in the experience of using haptic touch vs 3D touch.
Maybe Apple just need to tweak the responsiveness in iOS 13 for Haptic Touch?
The more I've used 3D touch the more I've realised how useful it is and how often I'm actually using it. I think thats why a lot of other people favor it.
But maybe haptic touch will improve over time ..... or Apple will reintroduce 3D touch.
Maybe the rumored iPhone SE2 will have 3D touch? :)

After an initial phase of disorientation, I prefer haptic touch over 3dtouch. It seems more reliable. Long press and a menu pop up. Easy.
With 3dtouch I had issues with the pressure level needed to perform the intended action.

Should never have killed it and made the phone a bit thicker instead so it still keeps the new battery increase.

They went backwards with this move.
It is already thicker and heavier.

I'm glad this article exists; hopefully won't have to keep explaining to people that they're not exactly the same.

Still enjoying 3D touch on my 6S, by the way :p One of Apple's few innovations in recent history.
If you are using iOS 13, you don’t have 3D Touch on your 6S.
