If you absolutely can't spend over $200, get a 5830. It's better than the GTX 465 and GTX 460. Or hell, find a GTX 285, or a used 4870X2.

Well I wouldnt call myself an enthusiast but Ive built PCs since becoming a mac person, I need a laptop and it makes more sense for me to have a MB/MBP and then build a PC which is half the price and more powerful than an imac and just use it strictly for gaming. I use the MBP for everything else.

460 (with 1GB) looks like a winner. Good performance/dollar with smaller card size and very low temps. That what you're getting?

I purchased the Gigabyte 1 GB GTX 460 with the dual 80mm fans this morning just after the reviews went live and it was available on NewEgg. At this time all 1 GB GTX 460 models are sold out or unavailable on NewEgg.

No surprise there. I would have made the same choice too. Any plans to SLI in the future or are you a strictly one card man?

It will just be one card for the foreseeable future. I've seen some reviews mention dead silent 900 MHz overclocks on this card too.

And that's why it's a win. With stock temps like the reviews show, I'd expect it to have a lot of headroom. It's a shame the initial fermi launch wasn't cards like the 460.

I've wanted to build another PC ever since I built a P4 with 9800 Pro rig many moons ago. Just have to talk the wife into it somehow :D Enjoy the card! What are you coming from?

My current card is a 19 month old Radeon HD 4830.

I'm hoping for a GTX 460 or a 5850. It just depends on the reviews next week. XFX has been selling a 5850 model for $269 on NewEgg.

PC enthusiast here. After building my PC's my whole life, I switched to OS X mid-way through a semester at college, because the MBP was the slickest laptop I could find and my laptop died. Now I'm back to a PC, because I'm sick of OS X and Apple's business practices. I never had to use the PoS called Windows Vista, but Windows 7 is simply marvelous.

I see two ideal setups: One of which is using a Mac Pro, and just changing out the graphics card and add RAM to keep up with the latest Crysis version.

Another setup is to have an iMac, then build a gaming PC every so often that supports the latest bells and whistles. This may be a cheaper avenue, provided one can find a way to get the PC working through DisplayPort.

I got involved in building a custom gaming rig with my brother. With a little researching and hunting for sales on Newegg, we finally put together a machine clocked in at 3.0 ghz Core 2 Duo (Quad at the time was pricier), 640 GB hard drive, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, an ATI Radeon 4650 Sapphire video card, and a huge Antec 900 case with blue LED lights. It was built around the 2008 holiday season and still runs like a champ with Windows 7. For any desktop I will never stop building. For any notebook, on the other hand, I have yet to switch to Mac. Currently I own an HP dv3t running Windows 7, and have taken good care of it through my college years thus far. Perhaps in 3 years I'll bite the bullet and try the MacBook Pro (or whatever it will be called by then), and hopefully take advantage of some new features that people are still waiting for either its release or prices to drop (SSD and USB 3.0). It might be a while, but it's worth the wait.

So all in all, I'm not an ex-PC enthusiast, but on the verge of making a switch with the notebook experience. ;)

I'm glad to report that my Core i5 750 is back together with the new GTX 460 card taking over for the HD 4830.

9100 ppd in Folding@Home is very nice.
