Has anyone been able to sand down or cut out the area that pushes out the magsafe on the XGear Shadow case? I sent them an email to see if they'll be making updates but I'm not holding my breath.

It's a shame, I love my new MB Pro but I'm concerned about how resilient it will be against scratches.

I'm in the same boat. My new MBP 15" HR-AG arrived last Thursday and I won't let it leave the house until I can find a case for it.

I read on another forum that someone bought this case with his new MBP and said it fit perfectly and he didn't have to make any adjustments at all. So I'm confused on whether anything has to be done to make it a workable solution. I don't want to use a nail file and try to make the current case work.

I'm so frustrated with Speck as I keep seeing ads for cases for the new iPad and it's not even out in Canada where I live. Meanwhile the new Macbook Pro has been out for a month now and there is nothing ready to go for it.

Is that Speck or Incase?

ramzah,

It's a Speck case http://www.speckproducts.com/products/by_device

I just contacted them again and they expect new cases to come out in 4-5 weeks to fit the new magsafe adapter.

I've also heard InCase is coming out with new cases and the bottom of their case allows for full ventilation as all the holes are open whereas with the Speck they have part of them closed.

After a frustrating morning spent discovering that the Incase Hardshell case does not fit my new MBP (despite what the guy at the Apple store told me), I ned to ask; Does anyone out there have a hard shell case that definitely does fit the new Magsafe connector?

I've got Speck seetrhu case from local bestbuy and it works perfectly with the power connector no angle problems.

mjoshi123,

Can you post a photo of it? I contacted Speck awhile back and they said it would charge at a slight angle and I would have to use a nail file to modify it which I'm not willing to do. What colour do you have? I'm wondering if they have started making improvements to their line as on their website they mention it will fit with the new magsafe connector. Others though on forums I've browsed say it doesn't work.

I also hear the frost InCase works as well with the new adapter.

mjoshi123,

Thanks for the photos. I wonder if it's just the clear case that will work. I'm in Canada and there is a new Best Buy opening up nearby that I'll have to check out.

Speck Case Update

I had contacted Speck Customer Service about an unrelated issue as I am looking to purchase two of their cases for the MacBook Pros we just purchased for our daughters.

They expect to have a modified SeeThru and SeeThru Satin available in about 3-4 weeks...I would guess mid-July 2010. I don't know if we are willing to wait that long or if we will just purchase them now and self modify. I am hoping that the new design is also a better match for the SuperDrive slot. Once we have made a decision I will repost with photos.

BE CAREFUL! The Speck SeeThru Satin case that has the "Yep, it fits!" sticker it a complete sham. What did they do? They opened all of the old cases and chopped off the part of the case that was getting in the way, and not in a clean way either, and sold it as new without any indication! The one I just got was completely dirty/dusty and the part of the case that they cut away looks like crap. I have contacted Speck about this and they don't give a damn. I'm so upset (I can't just return it, my mom spent $10 to send this to me and the closest apple store is 60 miles away). They also said that they have no knowledge about the "Yep, it fits!" sticker.

Modified Incase Hardshell for MBP 17 inch

I couldn't wait for Incase to release their retooled shell for the 17 inch MBP, especially after they told me that it will be 6 to 8 weeks for them to be ready. So I bought one of their regular green ones (which are getting harder to find) and modified it myself. All it took was a metal file to the side that protrudes. I also used painter's tape to mask out the area so I wouldn't mistakenly scratch the rest of the shell and some elbow grease. A good 10 minutes or so.

Take a look at the results.

f2002q,

That looks great. The company should just hire you to modify the cases for them. I know the 15" is out now but I'm trying to find it in Canada.

How did you get your four pictures to post like that in a square with each photo within the square?

Any news on when these companies are going to have a new case out that fits the 2010 17" MBP?

I went to the Apple Store today and saw new Speck cases that fits the MBP with the new Magsafe connector. The packaging has a label that says it is compatible with the new Magsafe connector.

(I hope it is okay for me to revive this thread)

I was wondering if incepio ever updated their macbook pro hardshell case and made it compatible with the magsafe? Most of the reviews I've found are several months old (and state that it is incompatible) and I'm wondering if anyone has more up-to-date information?

(I've tried to contact costumer support several times, but my inquiries keep going unanswered.)
