So how do you carry your MBP then, in a backpack, by hand?

I carry mine in the nami aka foofbag, and alternate it with the Tsunami foofbag (I also have the Nishikigoi foof for my old Air I sold).

For the last 1.5 years since I'm a picky bastard, I've been carrying it by hand in the sleeve.

But that all changed Saturday when I ordered this (the machine will remain in it's foofbag within the sleeve (and if it doesn't fit with the sleeve, I'll pull my gray Tucano Second Skin into the rotation since that's super thin and I know it will fit):

I ordered the blue one, should have it in 1-2 weeks. Truthfully I like the Saxby Slim in brown the most, but I didn't want to deal with a messenger for work--I wanted useful handles and simplicity (may get the Saxby Slim down the road for an everyday bag). Despite this new bag, and keeping the MBP in a sleeve, you bet I will still treat it like a baby.

I just got a TwelveSouth BookBook for my new MBP 13", and I love it. Provides more protection than a neoprene sleeve, and also reduces potential for theft by looking like an old book (until you look closely). I find it works pretty well as a lap desk as well, keeping the MBP in the case while I use it. So far, it hasn't gotten too hot in the case. :)

that gives me an idea. i think i'm going to hallow out an old encyclopedia now and put foam inside, and have it velcro shut. of coarse, it will not be a permanent solution, just to do as a smal project. :)

I prefer stay naked.:)

After a year using a speck transparent case on a macbook pro 15 ", the case has plenty of scratches but nothing on the macbook. However, after thinking about it for sometime I decided to take the case off for good today. It did spoil the look of the machine and as resell value doesn't matter to me, I thought why not take it off. I guess I used the speck case because this was my first mac since 1995 and I was a little bit protective about it.

Anyway, after a year of use it looks brand new, but I like the naked look better.

Does any one use a hard shell case like incase or speck over a wrapsol or invisishield type skin? I'm wondering if the hard shell would still fit perfectly with the increase thickness that comes from the skins ? If that works, it should prevent the hardshell from scratching the machine right ?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3Gs: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; Nexus One Build/FRF50) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Sleeve only. Had the hardshell but I just don't like the bulk.

This.

I've got an Incipio hardshell on my MBP, as a university student it's quite convenient to be able to chuck it in and out of my satchell without worrying about scratching it on stuff in there. I've thought about a sleeve as well but have found them a nuisance for that purpose. Admittedly I try keep it in its case where possible.

And good effort to those who haven't scratched their laptops! Both my 17" G4 PowerBook and 17" MBP Got covered in them :(

I dont have either.. but my MBP is only 3 weeks old. My wife is going to make me a soft sleeve, just need to get the fabric some weekend, I'm thinking felt or fleece interior and maybe use an old pair of corduroy trousers for the exterior :)

I think felt threads easily so may try fleece for the inside.

A plastic case around the MBP just makes it look tacky and cheap.

I dont know what you people are doing for it to be so protected. I brought myself a sleek looking sleeve, and it sits safely in my back pack during travel.

Sleeve 1 - Hardshell 0

I just have the Wrapsol full body protection on mine. I love it. I actually think the matte finish makes it look better as well.

Both. Hard case for when I'm taking it somewhere and am worried about it getting scratched by other people or where I'll be putting it. Soft for other times. Both if I really want to protect it all. Naked at home.

The Wrapsol is probably the best thing ever. It's naked.. but not quite. Just enough protection for day to day activities and just using a sleeve (Vyper M3) while carrying it from place to place is perfect. I personally think a hardshell adds too much bulk.
