I can't believe that 7 months later this is still being talked about. Simply don't cover the antenna when you're on the phone, put a case on it, or just buy a different phone! It is a non issue!!! The new phone will be out this summer and then you will have something new to bitch about!

if its a non issue then why do you have to put a case on it,

hey THERES NO ANTENNA ISSUE If you put a bumper on :)

and, its being brought up 7 months later because not everyone is an apple fanboy and follows everything they do/sell and f'up. For verizon people, this is a new issue to them.

For me, i knew the phone had this issue but also knew I would put a case on it so I am ok with it obviously, the OP asked if it still happens and we said yes, end of thread,. He did not care who has and hasn't had the issue, he wanted to know if it was changed/fixed, the answer is no

You don't have to put a case on it. I don't have a case on mine and talk on it every day with no problem at all! When you wrap your entire hand around the antenna yes it will cause the bars to drop just like with many other phones! If you can't use the phone without holding on to it like a baseball bat then a simple solution would be a case!!! No one said you have to put a case on it! All that's going on here is someone trying to get the whole antenna thing going again with the Verizon iPhone just like they did when the AT&T iPhone came out. Get a life!

There never was an issue to begin with, just the media, including YouTube and Macrumors blowing things out of proportion...

Uh huh. Never an issue - that's why Apple gave away thousands of cases.

People that don't keep up with current events, should not speak of things they do not know. iPhone 4 has a KNOWN issue with the antenna. You contact the two on the lower left, BOOM - connection drops.

1 - Noticeable more in low signal areas
2 - Not as much of a problem in high signal areas
3 - It's an issue that effects ALL iPhone 4's.

Get over it. I have an iPhone 4, never dropped a call and get better signal than with my 3GS. It's only a problem if you make it a problem.

I dont know why we ever post any Apple issues here, it is always turned around to blame the user

the phone does not have to be death gripped, simply placing my phone in my left hand, my thumb crosses "the gap" and the bars drop

FANBOYS UNITE!

Anandtech shows the Verizon ip4 is slightly better than the att ip4. However, it is still 7 x worse signal attenuation, when holding normally (no death grip) than the 3gs.

the reason why the 3gs doesn't attenuate 7-10x worse like the ip4 is simply bc the antenna is on the inside. By putting the antenna on the outside, Apple worsened signal attenuation 7-10 x. It is a design flaw, antennagate is real.

Apple can't fix it until they fix the design flaw and put the antenna back on the inside.

That being said, it's only going to affect someone in normal usage if they're in an area with bad signal strength. And, presumably, most people live in an area that has decent signal strength. So it really is a non-issue unless you live in an area with bad coverage, in which case your real issue ought to be that your carrier sucks.

Well, we've all provided links where it is an issue. You can at least provide the same to back up your claim.

He could probably cite the millions of iPhone 4s that have been sold as a pretty good indicator that it isn't really a real-world issue.

It was only an issue, because it was Apple.
If it was a generic HTC or LG device, no-one would've mentioned it.
Perception is a powerful thing. Once that hyperbole made the mainstream TV news(again, purely because it was Apple), Jobs stepped in with that press conference event-thing.
He offered every concession possible, from full refunds, free cases, etc, to give everyone a satisfactory option, until the end of September.
Sure, saying "You're holding it wrong" wasn't particularly clever, but once September was over, guess what? Antennagate was not heard of, until now, and it'll go away quickly, as it's old news.
If it really was an issue, you would've heard a whole lot more about, it since September.

hahahaha, maybe one day ill come out of the closet

cause its to much fun watching you guys defend apple all the time, You all take this **** personal like you work for apple and have to stick up for them, too funny, its like see a bad car wreck, you always have to stop and look

exactly, thats what I said about talking and surfing at the same time, they are making it such a big deal now because Apple is now on Verizon, you werent able to talk and surf on and Verizon phone without a wifi connection but because the iphone is now on the network, its a big deal.

If I recall correctly that email turned out to be fake.

The "You're holding it wrong" email was real. The fake you recall was a later exchange where someone claimed he said "Relax. Enjoy your family. It's just a phone."

It was only an issue, because it was Apple.

True, those who live by the sword, can die by the sword. Apple loves free PR, but that high public news profile can backfire.

Especially when the CEO sends an email like that one :)

It was compounded by Apple discovering "to their astonishment" that they'd been displaying too many bars all along, making it look like their phone has better reception than other phones.

At the press conference, Jobs then used every statistical trick he could, from only quoting ATT store return numbers that were also days old, to citing the number of increased dropped calls as a percentage of a huge population instead of for the individuals directly affected. Of course, that numerical handwaving went over most reporters' heads. Too subtle. The RDF still worked.

In how many threads must I link you to multiple articles that conclude, through measuring the signal, that there is a problem when touching the gap on the antenna? At this point you are either willfully ignorant or simply obtuse, by either refusing to read said articles or failing to understand them, and continue to believe whatever you want despite evidence to the contrary.

Actually, it's been proven by a number of sources, including AntennaSys (These guys are an antenna design consulting firm and this article is the most illuminating, by far), PCMag.com, Consumer Reports, Anandtech, and others. You should note that these reports conclude the problem lies primarily with the lower-left gap in the external antenna, meaning that this particular problem is different from other phones.
