Put it in lost mode, so they can tap it with their phone (NFC) to get your contact info to return it.

tried that. Guess they don’t know how it works but since it keeps updating, but hasn’t been moved in weeks! It must be close to an iOS device.

The interesting thing is, I seem to get SO CLOSE because it turns from starting a route via Apple Maps to the green icon (forgot what it is called) but just keeps saying „searching for signal“ which makes me believe it is inside of the building

Well, I'd leave it in lost mode - and try to forget about it - hopefully you get pleasantly surprised and get it back one day, but it could just as easily be in a dark corner in their garbage room.

Airtags are useless and a waste of money.

People should actually understand how things work before they buy them so their expectations are appropriately set. They're not cellular GPS trackers. People expecting them to be don't understand how the world works. :)

"Get SyncUP TRACKERTM service starting at only $5/month."

Find me a cellular carrier that will allow you to activate and provision service for a device with an eSIM for free.

You're paying a one-time-fee for a device, it won't have a provisioned cellular service.

That's why I didn't buy them.
