Mine has been working with a Mac and on a PC through an adapter for several years. I understand that it is hardly possible to get a power of TB 5 and 120 hertz are unlikely to work, but what about HDR mode and its recognition in Windows?

Because as of today there is nothing else on the market that is 5K LCD with local dimming. There's not even another 5K glossy non-LD LCD on the market until a few days from now from BenQ.

Reading the impressions forum yes they have, but it isn't easy to get working, seems only using a special cable which uses display port AND USB to a single USB C connector gets 5K 120 but that is using a 4090GPU. Seems those like me with an integrated Intel GPU can only get 4K 60MAX using the same type of cable. But plugging the same computer into the even the new refreshed none XDR Studio Display gets 5K 60 fine using just a thunderbolt cable, if you try that cable on the XDR it seems all you will get s 1080P max...

it's totally possible to get 5K@120 HDR on Windows or Linux but since this is very new monitor it uses some DP profiles which haven't been used before so there are some issues with GPU drivers. Currently it might work at 5K@120, or 5K@60, or 4K@60, or even 1080p@60. All depending on GPU vendor and drivers version.
That also means we cannot tell you how this monitor will work with your personal PC. Because we don't know.

Which cables are you referring to? The Cable Matters bi-directional DisplayPort to USB-C cable?

I’ve also come across the VR-style combo cables that merge DisplayPort and USB-C, which can carry things like audio, camera, and other data. From what I’ve seen, though, those are mostly used with displays like the older Pro Display XDR or Studio Display, and most of the examples online involve Windows or Linux setups over Thunderbolt.

Also curious to see if anyone here on Bazzite/CachyOS/Nobara and HDR support with this display.

I was referring to this one:

I’m using Belkin for Huawei VR cable a couple years with PC equipped 4080. Everything works fine with ASD OG: 5K/60hz, sound, webcam… but I doubt it can handle 5K/120hz and support HDR.

Besides I’m using Bootcamp tools for operating display brightness. It's not a fact that it will work with a new one

4080 doesn't support DP 2.1 so DP 1.4 will be used instead. If a cable is rated for DP 1.4 (usually such cables marked as "8K60") it definitely will be working with Studio XDR. Would you get 5K120? It's another question. But the answer will rather depend on GPU drivers and not cable.

I get 5K120 with that Nexhype cable, though no HDR. The PC detects it as a generic monitor with no EDID. My PC has a 9070XT. My PC does have Thunderbolt 4 via an add-in card, and that does not work with the XDR. It worked fine with the older studio display. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Are you on Windows? I'm looking into using the XDR with a Linux (Bazzite) machine with a 9070XT.

Just posting this to help anyone searching online for compatibility, I can confirm 5k 120Hz with HDR enabled on Bazzite/Linux using Cable Matters 40Gbps Bi-Directional USB-C to DisplayPort 2.1 Cable - 1.8m / 6ft with a 9070XT

EDIT: Also tested with a WJESOG cable mentioned above with the same hardware and can get 5k 60hz with HDR, 4k at 120hz, full webcam and audio support. Bazzite also lets me control brightness and audio with keyboard shortcuts, no need to install any additional software or script.
