You're not going to get LTE overseas with an AT&T phone. But LTE is really in its infancy in much of the world anyway, so you just allow yourself to be satisfied with your data coming in at slower speeds and enjoy being able to use your iPhone wherever you are visiting on a local network.

In other words, I will get some sort of internet access, 3G or whatever the local carrier offers, just not the LTE like in US, correct?

TYPE YOUR IMEI NUMBER on the box below.. it will say if it is unlocked or not.

Your link is no good (it's missing a w at the beginning) - it should be www.ebay.com/itm/190730802412?ssPag...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649.

Anyway, that's the exact listing I bought my unlock from and I've already confirmed that my imei comes up as unlocked when I search; however, I was under the (mistaken?) impression that I needed to do something to activate my unlock ticket.

Yeah I got my iPhone 4 unlocked. Sent the request and took them a week to get back. All I had to do was restore my phone and viola... UNLOCKED!

So I ordered two of these things (that's the most they would let me order):

http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/T-Mobile-Prepaid-SIM-Activation-Kit#close-cart

I gather they're just regular sim cards. Should I first use my micro-sim cutter to get it down to micro-sim size and then use the instructions posted earlier in the thread to cut it down to nano-sim size?

What do I do after that? Do I have to actually activate the sim card or can I just pop it in and look for T-Mobile to show up as the carrier?

You do not need to activate the SIM. But the phone does need to be activated.

It's a little disconcerting that unlock_fusion doesn't respond to emails. I emailed them a few times to find out what else I can do to ensure that my phone is unlocked and they have been unresponsive. They certainly did unlock my phone quickly but I need help now and they're aren't responding.

You should not find it disconcerting, you should just follow the directions they give. The only help you need is to follow the directions they supply. If you did that you would not be having a problem.

Thanks for the response but I did follow the directions they supplied. As I said before, I had my original iphone 5 unlocked by them and got the congratulations message in itunes so I know what I'm doing. I've restored many times with the replacement phone, I've followed the directions and I'm still not getting the congratulations message in itunes.

The phone is activated with AT&T already and supposedly unlocked. Is that good enough?

Yep. Now if you drop any other SIM into the phone, if the carrier ID pops up in the upper left, you know you are unlocked. If not, I believe it give an "invalid SIM" message.

Cool - I'll just have to wait for the t-mobile sims I ordered to come now. Thank you.

I've tried doing it through att's site and get an email saying to log into my acct and chat with a rep. They all tell me they can't do it through chat.

Terminate them for what reason? You're still paying your contracted for fees. And most of the people doing this are using their phones overseas anyway. And now with the iPhone 5, there are reports that some of the phones purchased at Apple Stores for use on the AT&T Network are coming unlocked from the factory.
Verizon is already required by US law to provide their phones unlocked. It's time for AT&T to do the same. And it's time for American consumers to stop being sheep. Until AT&T makes it easier for people to unlock their phones, services like this are going to exist as long as there is consumer demand.

I bet AT&T can spin this so that a consumer trying to unlock their phone when they aren't technically allowed to can be reason enough to terminate a customer's contract and service. I really think it's risky to take this action. If AT&T finds out you did this I bet you can get in serious trouble/lose your service.

From what I understand it's Apple not AT&T that isn't allowing iPhone's on AT&T's network to be unlocked.

If they terminate the contract, then that'd be awesome. Then I'd be contract free with contract-priced hardware, so I can go to a better carrier.

...your logic is flawed. AT&T doesn't give a **** if you unlock your iPhone, as long as you continue to pay for your service.

I don't see why they would want to terminate someone's contract for getting their iphone unlocked - they'd just be losing a customer. If someone got their iphone from AT&T at the subsidized price, they're locked in to AT&T for another 2 years anyway unless they pay the ETF. Either way, AT&T is getting their money back for the subsidy so why would they care? I bought my iphone at the subsidized price and now I got it unlocked. How does that hurt AT&T? I'm still locked in to a 2yr contract.

Do you have to erase settings before restoring from backup? I tried restoring twice without erasing and couldn't get that screen on iTunes.

I'm still a bit confused...is there a difference between
1) Click "Restore" button from the main screen, let it download the firmware, restore iOS, restore backup
2) Right click from side bar, "Restore from backup"
?

Yes.

Do my one word answers annoy anyone else? They sure are getting to me
