I might consider these as a backup pair. I've been wearing Oakley with Oakley lenses for years and the optical quality is outstanding, especially on the RX sunglasses. Perfectly in focus even at the very edges of peripheral vision on a wrap around lens!

Reviving an old thread just to update.
Today I received the second pair, from the very same company I ordered before.
They are simply perfect. Excellent service, and cheap ($146.00 for frame, lenses, and fast shipping). I am going to save a fortune.

Who did you get them from? The most I've spent now on a pair from Zenni is $148. That was progressive lenses with Transitions lenses. They're amazing.

Technically no I haven’t. But I recently bought a pair of prescription Maui Jim’s via a vision store (not my doctor’s office).

I walked in with a printed prescription and they placed the order to Maui Jim online who made the glasses. They came back perfectly. That’s kinda the same.

I wanted to get Maui suns but the cost for their prescription lenses are so expensive.

I've been buying glasses online from Zenni since 2012. My current pair is mesquite from the desert collection. They are actually really nice though not as light as other frames i've purchased from them in the past. I always pay extra for coatings, it's more than worth it. Given the rock bottom prices, it's not too much of a bother to just buy a new pair if I'm unhappy with some frames but that has yet to happen.

I buy 5 pairs at a time from Zenni. When you spend a lot of time around grabby toddlers, bent frames are facts of life. No way in hail do I drop several hundred a single pair again.
Well, they have memory metal frames now. Yeah... the idea is nice, but not practical for a guy with a big head. Since the bridge flexes, the lenses go out of alignment.:( I worn those memory metal glasses once, then gave them to the kids to play with. Apparently, it's not as indestructible as the marketing hype (fold 'em in half and it returns to its original shape:rolleyes:). A 3 year old broke them within 10 minutes.

So true. I planned terribly last year and had a bunch of flex spending money left and didn’t want to lose it. Oh, and I still had money left so I bought hundreds of dollars in bandaids. :(

Update with a little twist compared to my previous experience.
I ordered online glasses from the same business, but this time I decided to change the frame. When they arrived I noticed immediately that they were way too big (or my head/brain is too small!). Returning the item was incredibly simple, three steps on a website, print the label they provide, ship. The good thing is that I didn't pay a single dime down as the company gives the option to try em out before charging the amount.
I ended up re-ordering the previous Kissingerian frame I have been using for a couple of years, this time with the Digital Block and the "sunglasses clip" thingy. Received my package yesterday, all is good.

Buying online is probably okay, however I prefer a store.

I purchased three pairs of eye glasses since January all from the same store.

Glasses look bad on me so trying them on in person is helpful in finding the lessor of evils.

The pupil alinement is apparently important when making the prescription so in-house measurement is probably better.

Most stores do not make their lenses but order them via email/online. Not much different than doing it yourself I suppose. But once the lenses arrive/assembled the store runs them through their quality control review. One of my glasses failed their QA and rejected them.

I cannot be happier with the personalized professional service. It was definitely worth the money.
Every community has a few exceptional full service stores. They’re not easily found.

This is a locally owned company in Wayzata and Edina Minnesota: Art of Optiks

Yes, a local store is often the best choice. To be honest I tried at least five or six in the area and I was disappointed with all of them .

Does the store matter if most of the brands out there are owned by the same company?

Just ordered and received 2 pair from Warby Parker. They are Perfect.
I was able to get 2 pair with light responsive lenses for less than it was going to cost at my optometrist 1 pair non transitional lenses.
