Has anyone ever used Gofundme to collect funds for an iMac

Why? Because this is an upside-down world. I guarantee if the OP started a GoFundMe page to raise money for it but told it in a way that was over-the-top honest, that he'd get more than enough in donations to get one.
"I'm not in any medical danger or homeless. I'm just an self-absorbed narcissist that needs my fix of new Apple gear. When I go to Starbucks, I'm ridiculed by other patrons when they discover that I don't have an iMac. It has damaged my self-esteem to the point that I'm unable to get a job so that I can earn the money to buy one. It is a cruel catch-22. Please help me put the "I" back into iMac. For everyone who donates, I'll put your name as my wallpaper for a day and post a photo of it as a way of saying 'thank you' for overcoming your own self-centeredness to help someone as fortunate as you."

I prefer not begging for money. I find it more rewarding to work (and save) but that's how I was brought up.
I'd never use such a site for raising funds to buy a new iMac, as much as I'm in need of a new Mac. Those sites intent, as far as I'm concerned, are dire need of money for things like... people who lost a job and need quick money so they can afford to keep their home or pay a bill. Not for buying personal possessions.
