Has anyone had their ship date moved up?

I think just because you don't like the way they operate, it doesn't equate to poor customer service. Plenty of people on here elated with their Macbook, myself included.

I anticipate that when my Macbook arrives I will be one of those "elated" customers as well, but that does not mean that we should be prohibited from critiquing the process if we deem it to be unsatisfactory based on expectations/past practice.

I don't think your position is unique to not being from the US. Here in California, we still cannot walk into an Apple store and buy the Macbook. They say "go online and order it" ... yet their competitor, Best Buy, has had them in stock for a week now.

I don't see how in any situation a company would get inventory quicker to their competition quicker than they can have inventory themselves, unless this is the new direction Apple is going, turning their stores into display cases and online salesrooms for products, which defeats the entire purpose of having a store to begin with.

Dunno what to tell you. I hope this isn't the direction Apple is going.

I agree that it would be unfortunate to turn the stores into sterile showrooms, but that seems to be the direction that they're going in: for example, the whole push with the Apple Watch.

I'm guessing that your local Apple store has display stock. My main complaint is that we, in Europe and the rest of the world, have not been afforded that courtesy – or a reason as to why Apple can't even confirm when display models will be available.

Well you're talking about a company that has made a lot of changes the last few years, so using past-practice as a guide as to future action is a terrible idea and will only lead to upset.

Apple's past practice would never to have been to release a product you can only buy online. Apple's past practice would never to have allowed a third party, competing retailer to stock their product before them. Apple's past practice would never be to say "launch day is April 10" and not have them available to touch and play with.

Apple's past practices have always been customer experience... Angela threw that out the window, tying up critical retail space to showcase a watch not being released for a month, meanwhile not showcasing a product that's already released. It's a new day, and better to look forward than backward, and make your purchasing decisions based on that. I don't think Angela is going anywhere, rumor is she an Tim are bestie. So buckle up, it's going to be a new path going for. Past is out.

Well if they're legitimately strapped for supply, do you think it makes more sense to send the production units out to stores and show you something you can't buy, or ship that unit to someone who has bought it to catch up with the backlog of orders, thus allowing you to get a unit quicker?

From a business perspective, stocking demos in Europe makes zero sense when they don't even have a product to sell.

Then I can only hope that the future brings them the competition they so richly deserve as dashing your customers' reasonable expectations is a terrible way to operate.

I like Mac OS X and find Windows a bit of a mess in its current incarnation. However, I do feel that Apple is beginning to treat its customers a bit like a cult treats its members. They are relying on a mixture of slavish, unquestioning devotion and a lack of competition. Their product is great, but their attitude could be better.

Yep, between botched software updates, performance issues from products, etc, it's been a rough few years at Apple. Their customer service in the last 5 years has diminished greatly. I'm not sure if it's the cult mentality you suggest, or if it's because Apple is getting too big, and is trying to be too many things to too many people.

Apple already had a crowded product line to be able to maintain the level of customer service they strived for, but now they've added an additional iPhone to the mix (offering two sizes), they've added Apple Watch, which is a completely new line and market segment, and they've added Beats Headphones into the fold, which seems bizarre to anyone. The company seems like it's trying to figure out what it wants to be all over again. When they launched retail, it was really just Mac Computers and iPods, and products that support those products. Now they're supporting iPod, iPad, Mac, iPhone, Watch, Beats... they've gotten so spread thin that they don't seem to be able to manage what they started out with anymore. Tim Cook is a good business man, but they need someone who is anal retentive and incessant on restoring the drive for perfection that brought Apple to where it is today.

Agreed.

Apple's online store is 4-6 weeks for any combination...but Bestbuy has it available to be delivered in 1 week? Hard to fathom!

Dear Angela (c\o Apple Inc) -

It's been nice doing business with your website and store for 10 years, unfortunately Best Buy seems to have taken over your wheelhouse, so in the future, I'll be buying products there instead of directly from you.

Signed,

Shocked Customer To Ever Think I'd Be Typing This

What?! +1 for what config did you order. I got my order for a base model space grey in at 3:13am and I'm still sitting at 3-4 weeks (delivers May 11th+). What the heck!

1.2GHz/512GB, Space Grey. Tracking info from UPS received!

Ship to Store

I ordered the 1.3/512 space gray, with a confirmation email 26 minutes after orders were open. The Ship to Store date is May 15, and hasn't changed. :)

It doesn't defeat the purpose of the store if it is a display case. People walk in, fall in love with the product and go home and order it. Seeing the rMB in person makes you want one. A review can not do the same.

WHAT DID YOU USE!?!?! can't get order number or phone number to work on ups.com :(

UPS.com. Weird list though, all the departure scans came over the weekend from Shanghai, Anchorage, and Louisville, and the arrival scans in all three cities are popping up today.

Delivery has slipped back to the original UPS estimate of Thursday.

Bumping this.

It seems like some people who ordered the 1.3GHz model have started to have their accounts charged, but haven't necessarily seen updates to their ship dates. Hopefully, that comes next--otherwise, why charge, right?

Has anyone, stock or BTO, seen their ship dates revised from Apple?
