That sucks. I just bought this headunit 2 months ago.:(

Yeah, although to the source unit manufactueres credit, I don't think they knew the iPhone would act the way it is acting. I think the general assumption was if it worked for the iPod it would work for the iPhone. Which is actually true (for the most part).

Now the manufacturers could suprise us all and do firmware upgrades for the recently released source units, but I wouldn't count on it. I wouldn't expect to see any source units with true iPhone compatibility (like Alpines full speed direct control) until next year, the biggest thing is to watch the Winter Consumer Electronics show. If the source unit manufacturers are on their toes we should see something then.

I've got one of the Alpine iPod units w/ full speed and it works fine, except it forces the iPhone into Plane Mode. Sucks you can't get calls, but it's better than nothing.

Actually if you just say no when it asks to go into airplane mode it works fine. The negative is when a call comes in or you make a call while the phone is still connected to the iPod interface cable you will here interference through your stereo speakers

I dont get any interference, and just take the call on speaker mode.

I have the Alpine CDA-9855 and the iphone worked flawlessly, exactly like my 1st gen nano.

Yah, I figured i'd post that option up there for those having problems getting that head unit to work at all.

a lot of people really do like the alpine unit. I kind of lean the other way. To be honest I'd rather not have a head unit there if I could get rid of it. But it serves as a pre-amp with multiple audio outs to my amps and speaker set up.

I'm actually trying to figure out a way to remove the head unit completely and create a dock in the dash, where my alpine will no longer sit. So that I can just use my iPhone as my head unit/radio.

Easy, use the Rockford Fosgate 360.2 It will allow you to connect your iPod/iPhone as an AUX source with volume control. It will also do all the signal splitting. Downside: You will need amps for your speakers.

Is it possible to hook the iPhone up to the 9885 through aux or something similar?

I have decided to pull my KCA-420i and connect an aux AiNet cable.

Since you want to be able to see everything that happens on the iphone you don't want it to be in 'peripheral connected' mode anyway. I got a Griffin Tech tune flex that has a aux output on its base so I'm gonna go that direction. I don't want to buy anything major until Alpine comes out with something that will allow me to fully control the phone.

works fine with CDA-9856

I have an Alpine CDA-9856 with the Alpine KCE-422i iPod cable.

I get the not compatible message and airplane mode etc.

Everything works fine...music fades and pauses for calls, ringer over stereo speakers, charges, etc

I thought about this to but for now I would just rather use a Mac Mini as the head unit w. a touchscreen! Great Idea though!

Works with Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and iPod Interface

I just plugged it in and it works just like my iPod. I don't hear any noise or interferance, but the dock connector is located in the glove box about 2 feet from the unit. It connects the the unit via Bluetooth for the phone and that also works perfectly.

On another note, the iPhone also works just fine in my Apple Hi-Fi, although when just charging and not playing I occasionaly hear a little noise.

what is the make and model of your interface cable?

Its the easy cable, the fullspeed one, the KCE-422i. Has anyone used this one and gotten it to work, or are you guys all using the kca-420i (the box unit)?

Please let me know, as I may just pick up the kca-420i to use my iphone.

Actually that is agood idea, can someone check to see if the 420 works with the newer Apline headunits? It just daened on me that whan I was at BestBuy on Saturday the Alpine they had with the full speed module didn't work. My Pioneer doesn't have the "full speed" support so I have to use a box unit. I bet that could be the issue, maybe the "full speed" connectors don't carry enough power for the iPhone, but do for the iPod.

Yeah I'm using the KCE-422i

Charges and plays with full controls through headunit

Pioneer's CD-IB100II iPod adapter permits direct control and playback of iPod through our “iPod® Adapter Ready” headunits.

I'm going to amend my "it works perfectly" position because I've noticed that when connected and running the iPhone gets alarmingly hot.

I mean so hot you start thinking "I really don't like having this connected it might start a fire" hot.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but I'm gonna guess that heating electronics waaaaay up is probably not a real good idea.

I'm going to have to hold out for a solution that can keep it running at normal temps.

Does it get as hot if you put it in Airplane mode?

Works great with my IVA-200. Asks if I want to put it in Airplane mode when I plug it in which I is nice.

Now just want to find out if bluetooth works.

Same exact setup, works flawlessly (iPhone's flash drive MUCH quicker and more accurate FF/REW/SKIP than my "old" hard drive-based iPod).

And yes, I can also cook an egg on it. Does burning the thing up using a 3rd party's device (Alpine) that not branded "Works with iPhone" void the iPhone's warranty? I'd hate to have to get a new head unit too.

Put it in Airplane mode and see if it gets as hot. It could be plugging it in causes the wireless/cell radio to go into full power mode. Which would probably explain why it is heating up.

I did a little testing, and witnessesed a significant reduction in heat output whilst in airplane mode. Which is too bad. I do intend on pushing the limit, though. Apple and or Alpine would have issued a warning if it was some sort of fire danger.
