Has anyone orderd one of these yet. I think its going to be one of my best upgrades yet. Not sure whether to click the buy button.

Is there a chance Apple will drop the price or is that it?

Now, why isn't a high end NVIDIA card offered? Just in case of PhysX.

just wait until the apple branded ati cards hit the street. someone will rip the rom and post it to the internet allowing us to buy regular PC cards (with a large enough ROM chip on them) and then flash them with the OS X ROM. identical functionality to the apple card for about 1/3 the price.

But will we be able to use the 24" LED?

Yes, though I will be getting student discount. They don't have any of the cards (obviously), so I won't be paying until they arrive in stock. So £280 minus discount.

i'm picking one of these up! since most importantly I'll still be able to use my 30" ACD (whew*) :p and get one of the LED displays as a second monitor.

Glad Apple didn't forget about us 2008 Mac Pro owners.

Around $400

WTF!?!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?

You can buy a 4870, right now, TODAY, from Newegg.com for $179.00

I can't BELIEVE they have the balls to charge MORE THAN DOUBLE for that card.

I am completely disgusted with Apple today. Disgusted.

Well I don't think they'll be using that exact exchange, from what it looks like, it's a little lower than the current currency conversion. Still means $300s though.

if you buy that monitor, then you're beyond all help. Why anyone would buy such an expensive display with a single input is beyond me.

But, to answer your question, no, you wouldn't be able to use that display since standard versions of the 4870 do not have a mini displayport port.

07 Quad core Mac Pro compatible?

I am assuming from what I can see that the 4870 is not compatible with my 2.66 Quad core?

What is the best card currently available to me as an upgrade then?

One of the fans on my x1900 card has failing bearings and makes a real racket. I think its a message telling me to upgrade.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 4870 won't work as it is not EFI32 compatible. You're left with either the 3870 or the 8800GT upgrade kit.

What monitor could I buy then? I really like the idea of a built in webcam as I skype a good few people.

I've got a Dell at the moment which is this one http://www.google.com/products/cata...&ie=UTF-8&cid=15720893788189028081#ps-sellers

and I really don't like it. Viewing pictures on it is horrible. Colours are wrong and never look sharp compared to my 24" iMac.

Depends what you do with it. If you want something good for Motion, grab the 3870. If you want something that'll be a damned sight more useful when OpenCL goes live, get the 8800GT.
