How is the matte coating? As bad as the 2410? I think I might prefer glossy/glassy apple then?

My 2003 20" acd had much better matte then the 2410

It is quite grainy, slightly more so than the 30" ACD I'm sat at now, but I've never seen a 2410 to compare it to. I wouldn't really have noticed it were it not for the glossy iMac screen and iPad screen that I often use.

It's nowhere near as big a problem as its disastrous colour reproduction though.

after reading though some threads, people suggested that to connect u2711 using mini dp to dp cable/adapter. may i know why this setup is better for u2711 compared to dvi-d connection?

The MDP-DP offers the same screen refresh rate and resolution as the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter but it costs 90% less i.e. $15 compared with $150.00. However, as I have already mentioned in this thread, the MDP-DP may have some problems (refer to my previous posts for further explanation).

Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter - http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY

P.S. The standard DVI adapter doesn't support the full resolution that the U2711 can display.

I've been using the U2711 with a mini-dp to dp cable from Monoprice for a few months without any problems, when suddenly it stopped working - similar to what Alex.Hillz described. Plugging in the adapter on my late 2008 15" MBP makes the MBP screen flicker, the blue light on the U2711 flickers on, but after a few seconds it just says "entering power save" etc.

Has there been any resolution found?? And the source of the culprit (cable, MBP, or monitor?!)

Yes, it works very well. I've connected a 2009 Macbook up to my new Dell U2711 monitor, running at 2560 x 1440, 60hz. The Dell is a stunning monitor. The easiest way is to get a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable which is available from Circuit Assembly (http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products/Mini-Displayport-to-Displayport-Adapter-Cable.html). I found that I could then use the Dell U2711 as an extended monitor running at 2560 x 1440 connected to the Macbook. If I tried to mirror the Macbook to the monitor then the U2711 would drop to a lower resolution or crop the display so that less of the screen is used (obviously this is less than desirable). They way I found to get around this is to leave the Macbook closed and use an external keyboard and mouse (in my case these are the wireless versions). Now I can run the U2711 at full resolution (2560 x 1440) with Macbook fully visible on it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this info. Question. I have a wireless track pad mouse (apple) and a USB wireless Logitech keyboard for Mac. How would the two devices work if the MacBook pro is closed and sleeping?

Sorry for the silly question but I have the same setup as you and will try it once I get the display port cable I ordered from monoprice. Thanks.
