I just realized this change, too. There's not even any Internet Tethering settings in the APN anymore. Bummer.

You can't even do USB tethering anymore.

The MMS proxy and UA Prof URL is also left blank.

I haven't checked my TMO online account in a while but the site now recognizes my phone as the Apple iPhone 5.

go to about, or plug it into the computer.

i checked around and nothing but soon as i plugged it in it popped up on my phone

I went to about nothing. Plugged in and nothing. I'm not worried yet, I'll give it time. Just checking into see if anyone else hadn't got it yet.

Unfortunately, the update removes the personal hotspot option and now tells me I need to contact tmo. Anyone done this yet? How much is tmo gonna want to enable it? Is there any way to revert the carrier update settings?

Anyone on T-Mobile MNVO receive the Carrier update to show "4G" instead of 3G?

It will now say 4G instead of 3G when using HSPA+. But MNVO's aren't getting this carrier update afaik. It is only rolling out to official T-Mobile sim users.

well in the video it shows that it does have 4G instead of 3G

I said "MVNO" = Sub carriers like simple mobile, spot mobile, Walmart family mobile which all use tmobile towers.

Thanks anyway

Ya, I mean not like its going to make the network any faster.

My niece has a factory unlocked 4S no jb, but her folks won't give her a data plan. She received the update and turner on cellular data and was able to get mms to work. Turn it off and no go.

She wanted to know if she could leave on the cellular data to use mms and refrain from doing anything data sensitive when not connected to wifi? Or will it force a data plan on her line?

Many thanks in advance for the help!

Got it on both my 4S and 3GS. On the 4S, 3G now shows 4G and of course the 3GS still shows 3G as it should.

Nice update. I don't care about losing tethering, I still have it built in natively on my Nexus 4.

It's a good idea to reboot your phone to allow the APN settings to take effect.

She should be fine as long as there is no data plan on her line on the account. Make sure that she doesn't have the $1.99 pay per use mobile web feature either or else she would incur overages for using data.

$15 per month for 'Unlimited' (Throttled) 5Gb data.

I would prefer to have the personal hotspot option back, it's not worth the $15 especially if we're not able to use the faster HSPA+ network. I don't think I'll be getting the updated iPhone.

I really hope a jailbreak dev can re-enable this feature. I don't feel it's right to pay for the jailbreak apps that enable tethering when this feature was free before the application of this carrier update.

If you aren't jailbroken, you can just restore to 6.1.3 and just don't update your carrier settings when it asks this time

I don't know if this method works or not. I personally didn't update my carrier settings and don't feel like risking it. Tell me if you give it a try and whether it works or not
