Hi,

Have you been able to get a new $29 battery at Apple if your iPhone has a 3rd party battery?

thanks

They might even return it with NO battery or charge you full replacement price since the 3ed party battery would be considered unsafe.

Thank you all for your replies!! I'll get a 3rd party battery replacement

I had a battery replaced in my phone with a 3rd battery before this plan was initiated... I would prefer a genuine one, would they replace it with a genuine one?
Thanks

They won’t do it if you use a 3rd party battery. You should never use 3rd party parts in your Apple products. Always leads to trouble.

That’s absolute nonsense. There are plenty of fantastic service engineers (many ex Apple techs) that have set up shop to cater for a cheaper/more reasonable option.

The way things are going at the moment, third party is the only choice for many.

Just make sure your 3rd party has a good rep and just make sure that rep is founded.

I took a 6S in that I had purchased from someone on ebay. Battery was 85% so took it into Apple and they said due it being a safety issue they denied a replacement battery. They even told me the LCD has been replaced, and still would have changed the battery if it was original.

so no they wont do it

I kept my oem iPhone 6 battery when I swapped it out with a 3rd party battery. I had bought the battery right before Apple started the $29 program, but before Amazon delivered.

So I knew that I might have need to put the Apple battery back in.

I ultimately did that and Apple or in a new battery at the $29 price.

It did cost me a few bucks to get some glue steps though.

Perhaps you could find a broken iPhone that has an original battery and put it in yours before going to the store.

And I just remembered the program has ended already. Oh well. Could still do this to get an oem battery, albeit at a slightly higher price.

i just ordered a 3rd party battery for my old 6s after getting it replaced from apple last year. I'm getting much better results from my 3rd party battery, the OEM battery sucks.

just make sure you get a 2200 mah battery. i believe the oem is like 1700 mah.

They won't touch it.

November of 2017, my 6S+ was having battery drainage issues and it was obvious the battery was failing. Apple ran a test and said the battery was good so refused to replace it. I ordered a battery from iFixit and put it in myself and the phone was running like it was new, Of course in a few months they would start the $29 replacement deal but it was too late for me now.

Unfortunately Apple will never touch that phone since I opened it myself and put in a non Apple battery which is what iFxit sells.

I first went to an official Apple store to replace my battery. As it took them 3 days to do it and I’m living 180 km from the Apple store, I decided to do it at an unofficial store. It did even cost me less and was ready in 15 minutes. That’s almost a year ago and I’m still happy, satisfied with it. No battery related problems :).
Oh, by doing that I broke the warranty rules of Apple. But those rules were already bad for customers anyway.

It’s common in a lot of industries. You can have your car warranty voided if you have repairs done by a non certified repair place or them not using certified parts.

why would you do that?
Refuse an original apple one, and bring a 3rd party battery?
Who are you asking?

If you're referring to my quote above, I bought a 3rd party battery for my iPhone6 right around the time the who ThrottleGate story broke. I ran Geekbench to confirm that my perception that my phone was slow was indeed measureable. At the time, a battery replacement was $80 at the Apple Store. A generic battery at Amazon (with good ratings) was only $25 with a decent set of tools.

Right after (or shortly after ... cant quite remember) I ordered it, Apple announced the $29 replacement program, but they had already shipped my battery and the concensus was that the Apple Stores were gonna be packed with people getting new batteries.

So when the Amazon battery came in, I swapped it out and kept the old OEM battery just in case I wanted to replace the 3rd party battery with an official one at some point before the end of 2018.

The 3rd party battery was great, for about 3 months. Speeds were fantastic (relatively speaking). But that battery started to crap out too (you get what you pay for). So when I got my new Xs (in November), I put the original battery back into the 6 and took it into Apple for a $29 replacement. (NOTE - actually I think the 3rd party battery got so bad that I put the original battery back in well before I bought the Xs. Funnily, the depleted OEM battery was better than the depleted 3rd party battery.)

The 6 will be my backup, or I'll pass it down to my oldest when they decide to be responsible enough ... which should be any day now ... haha.

My point is go elsewhere. Void warranty is only my concern if it’s within the timeframe. Nowadays Apple is always my 2nd option when getting things fixed if out of warranty.

Did apple cancel the 29.99 dollars replacement of the battery?

It was a special discounted program that ended at the end of last year. There are still battery replacement programs that are still there, just like before, but the prices are higher, and the requirement of the battery actually coming up as being at 80% capacity or lower might be back as well.
