I was told by phone customer service that the store would be able to process trade-ins instantly. But at the store, they said they couldn't do it because they need to enter the ESN # of the new iP6 (not available yet for pre-orders) in order to complete the transaction. If anyone had success, tips would be appreciated!

They were correct they need a phone to give your number to when it gets traded in. Right now, since the iPhone 6 is not available you cannot process the trade in.

Finally! A worthwhile thread!

I too am very curious about this. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I was going to go into Verizon today to do the trade-in but it sounds like they won't be able to do it based on what you posted. Seems kinda silly to make the offer valid through the 30th but we *really* can't take advantage of it until the 19th (and even then, I wonder how willing they'll be to do it being that they'll be busy selling/activating iPhones for people).

why? They don't need a phone to give MY number to... my number is tied to my iPhone 5 that I use right now. I am trading in my old iPhone 4 that is sitting here, useless (well close to it).... they don't need to port my number or move it to anything... Just take my phone and give me $200....

They be able to handle it online, that is pre-order your phone, then when it shipped include a box for your old iPhone.

As I understand it, the Verizon's trade-in deal requires activation of one of their crappy Edge programs. :(

I want to resell the phones I pay for...not give them back!

Well maybe they can handle your order then.

Most people don't have spare iPhones to trade in. Go to an VZW store and find out for sure.

Nope.

You will receive a $200 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5c, and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

So I pre-ordered the iP6 last night, can I still get in on this?

Do need the promotional code or anything?

Yes.

No, code. Read below.

Verizon Customer Support answered this on Verizon's forum.

We can answer all of that for you so you get that $200 you're looking for. You will need to visit our Trade In website http://bit.ly/GGnDDCto start this process by September 30, 2014. Then you will receive a box in the mail to return your iPhone 5 to us in, and it must be returned by December 30th, 2014. That should allow you plenty of time to have the iPhone 6 shipped and activated before returning your older model.

So, just to clarify, my girlfriend can pre-order an iPhone 6 from Apple.com and still qualify for this trade in offer? She doesn't have to order it specifically from verizon?

That's my question too. Someone in another thread posted a conversation with a Verizon rep that said we would still be eligible as long as we signed a new 2 year agreement with Verizon and had a new iPhone 6 or 6+. I was hoping someone else on this thread had found similar info from an independent source, but that's the only one I've seen so far. I don't think we'll no for sure until the 19th when the masses are actually trying to complete this transaction.

My other question is whether VZW finalizes the trade in the store if you bring your old phone in to them instead of mailing. I've read too many complaints online that VZW claims Find My iPhone wasn't turned off or the device doesn't work or some other ridiculous excuse to only give the seller a few bucks. But if the deal was finalized in person, I'd feel much better about the trade in offer.

Anybody done the in-store trade-in yet?

Yep - just did it and got a $200 gift card for my iP4. You can use your new iP6's ESN from the shipping confirmation and you're good to go.

How closely did they inspect your phone? I'm guessing it probably varies by store/manager but was still curious of your experience. I have a perfectly functioning iphone 4 with no history of water damage, but when I look at the bottom dock connector, I do see some red in that little square, which is supposedly the water damage indicator. All the buttons, screen, sound are all perfectly working. I wanted to know if that red would be a dealbreaker. Thanks.

I would also like to know how thoroughly they looked at the phone. My iPhone 5 has a few dings and dents on bottom and bezels, but nothing terribly serious on ports or screen.

It definitely will vary by individual - my iP4 had some minor dings around the bezel and tiny chip on bottom of screen, otherwise flawless screen/back. Got $200. If your phone is not flawless, I think taking to the store is better. That way, you can either not accept the trade-in (if offer is lower than you would like) or try another store. Much more control/flexibility than mail-in.

Did they look at the water damage indicators at the top and bottom of the phone with a flashlight?

So if you do the trade in the store do they give you the $200 gift card after they inspect it?

What do you mean they were able to process it immediately.

I just got mine done in store. Preordered my 6+ through Apple, and brought them an old AT&T iPhone 4. They looked at it a bit, took down some info, and out the door I went.
