If ATT is gonna change my plan on the "assumption" that I am tethering, I am gonna ask for proof. They will need to show me some kind of logging to prove that my data traffic came from a source other than my iphone.

I think we should all ask for such proof.

And who is to say your phone did not get some kind of hack or virus that enabled someone to make it appear that traffic was coming from your iphone's ID?

This seems like a very difficult assumption for ATT to really "prove".

They don't have to prove anything. They can change your plan at any time for any reason and there's not a thing you can do about it, other than complain and rant and rave about how you will sue and yada, yada, yada.

The only way to know is to actually purchase the 4GB DataPro plan for a month. Then only use PdaNet to tether and see if you actually use any of the 4GB.

THat wont tell you anything. That 4GB is shared between tethering and Phone data. Its not like the 4GB is just for tethering. you get a 4GB pool to use however you like. therefore any data that goes through your phone ( tethering or non) will be deducted from that 4GB pool So that will not tell you if it showing as tethered or not.

I have the 4GB data pro plan this is how I know it is not splt up

This might not work for At&t BUT anyone with a Verizon iPhone that has unlimited data could:
- purchase the 2gb tethering add on
- use PDA net with the hide tethering usage level 2 on
- see if it uses the unlimited data or the 2gb tethering data!!!
- if it's shows that it's using the unlimited data then everyone will know that PDAnet actually hides tethering for sure :)

With the help of a iPhone user on Verizon the rest of us on Att could figure out if PDAnet actually hides tethering usage or not :D

Does anyone know any Verizon owners out there willing to do this?

AT&T stole my Unlimited Data and switched me...

Yeah, AT&Terrible robbed me of my unlimited data and without my consent, switched me over to 4GB tethering plan that costs more. Against my will, of course. They were brutal when I spoke with them and they said there was nothing I could do to get it back and I told them it was unethical and down right shady. They screw me over in lack of service and charge me way too much every month. I can't stand them and can't wait to switch over to VZW or at least someone who can provide me with a better experience. They told me to read the fine print on my contract and they said they can change my contract anytime without even notifying me! What a joke. To say the least, I am looking forward to leaving them and their joke of a network.

hahahaha, wait till Vzw does it. If you do read the fine print, it does say they can change it. If you didnt agree to it, they wouldnt have let you on there network. Every carrier has that.

I just got an iPhone again after a break for a few months. I tethered my mom's iPad to my iPhone for about 30 minutes so she could update some of her stock apps while we were driving to New Orleans. In the few months that I didn't have an iPhone I heard about the text messages but it seemed like AT&T was doing it to only high usage users some of which weren't tethering. I wasn't too worried about it but it seems like they've gotten much better at hitting people who are tethering so I'm a little worried.

This year I haven't gone over 2GB in usage in any month. The closest I've been is 1.8GB so I could get by with 2GB but I'm going to hold onto my unlimited plan for as long as I possibly can. I know my brother uses mywi and he hasn't gotten the text yet. Hopefully AT&T overlooks my tiny bit of tethering.
