turn off all the lights, put up a black screen, take a camera (iPhone camera for example) and take a picture (without flash) of your black screen, you'll see the light bleed then...

When do you use your iMac while looking through a Camera with all of the lights off and on a black screen? WTH, give me a break

Hahaa come on man thats the camera causing it and thats going too far. I did checke for lightbleed though mine doesnt have any surprisingly.

So let me get this straight.

You perform a bunch of tests that ironically enough you'd never do during normal use of the machine?

Try tilting the iPhone camera and you'll see the 'light bleed' shift too! :p

My 27 inch is perfect. My main concern was dead pixels and black screen in dark room (with my own eyes not camera) for movie watching. Everything great :).

Search for "Screen Utility" on the App Store for a great free pixel tester (no affiliation).

Mine's great. I haven't noticed any screen problems. The only two Macs I've had with display issues were laptops, one with white spots (repaired by Apple) and another with a vey limited viewing angle.

My 27" arrived yesterday, but annoyingly it has a couple of very prominent dead pixels (very centrally placed). Normally I'd tolerate one or two off to the sides, but as I'm using it professionally (and it cost a fortune), I'm opting for a replacement.

Apple very straightforwardly agreed to shipping a replacement BTO, and letting me hold onto the first one until I'm ready (and happy) to send it back. All very decent.

Won't come until January though, but at least I can can still get on with my work with a couple of annoying dead pixels.

Good job. I would do the same thing. Just costs to much to settle for less.

haha, I wasn't being serious, no need to get upset, haha...

I was saying in another post that I was going to take a picture to show that my screen didn't suffer from backlight bleeding, but camera makes it look as if that thing is bleeding to death

That isn't a great way of thinking, you wouldn't normally notice dead pixels under normal viewing right away. Youd notice them eventually though. So you're saying you would be fine with them out the box since you couldn't spot it right away under "normal use"?

I agree. I actually didn't notice mine until after a day of use, and after I'd transferred all my data.

I should have run the tests straight out of the box, then I might have held off on the migration until the replacement came.

Got mine today!!

Love, love love this new iMac! She looks to be in minty condition. I am upgrading from a PPC G5 and am blown away how much faster and nicer this is

Define perfect? Alot of stuff is subjective, for instance what might seem like bad backlight bleeding for one person might be fine for the next. I think my 27" is as close to perfect as you will get but it does have a small amount of backlight bleeding. I would not swap it for any other iMac as everything works perfectly and i have the best HDD, SSD and panel that Apple use in it.

I got it unpacked and set up, then had to get ready for work. I haven't had a chance to really check it out, but I do not see any dead pixels.

I received my iMac yesterday and from what I've inspected, the machine is flawless. Screen is perfect, alumnium is perfect.

Is this the best QC Apple product released in a while?

It sure seems like it. I almost expected to have something wrong with it and have to live with it. From bad iPad panels to chipped iPhone 5's out the box I've bought. It's nice to not have to return nothing and get a quality product.
