The ipad 2 didnt get a retina screen even though there were lots of people like you who said it had to, etc, because the technology wasnt available to make a 3+ million pixel screen on a 10" screen at an affordable price in high quantity, now 6 months after we finally get the screen on the iPad 3, everyone is screaming why hasnt Apple shrunk it by over 30% and made it cost even less so they can put it into a $250 device. Its not going to happen, this time, and much like it not happening with the iPad 2, where there were huge predictions that the iPad 2 would not sell other tablets were going to take over the market, etc the iPad Mini is going to sell millions of units and be a big hit, and next year we'll see retina on it.
Then they should not release a mini until next year.
How on earth is a precarious time, they are the most valuable company, the stocks at record high, they can't make enough phones or ipads to keep up with demand, and have a new product (iPad mini) coming out for christmas that they expect will sell 10 million units, adn they have over 100 Billion dollars in the bank, that doesnt sound precarious according to the classic definition of the word.
Precarious in the long view. The height of success is when companies start making mistakes. Oops, Apple Maps was one such mistake (overblown, for sure, but definitely tarnished their public image and has current non-iPhone users hesitating to jump in). Also, I've seen numerous articles questioning whether Apple has run out of creative steam with no Jobs at the helm. The revolutionary TV Jobs has talked about seems to have been abandoned, and there is no indication that Apple is going to bring about any truly innovative products anytime soon, but merely keep incrementally upgrading their existing lines. That can't last. The Apple I know would come up with something truly revolutionary every 2 or 3 years and I just don't see that happening without a visionary like Jobs having sparks of inspiration. There's a point coming soon where even those of us who are iOS devotees will get bored with incremental updates and start checking out what other companies are doing. Speaking of which, every other tech company is chomping at their heels. The MS Surface may look crappy to Apple-philes but it will be damn compelling to the business community and higher-end public. Many many people love Android and are snapping up those tablets like crazy. Apple also seems to be neglecting their higher-end computers. Cook may be a brilliant businessman, but they need an artist to go in there and shake things up a bit.
