I did the same and didn't notice it until I watched a movie on it at night. Definitely some bleeding near the bottom on the bezel :(. Not sure if Apple would consider it 'bad enough to swap out. Or if I want to go the the hassle as it is only noticeable at night.

They will swap it with a brand new one, as it is not an issue that can be fixed by a hardware update or part change. I went into an Apple retail store and showed them mine and they replaced it within 5 minutes, without even asking much questions. They will always have replacement units in stock, apart from sealed ones. The new one still has the issue so at this point in time, it's just pure luck getting an iPad 2 without backlight leaking issues, I'd advise wait till next quarter (preferably June or late May) so that Apple will fix this issue in their next production update (hopefully).

I just received my iPad 2 today--ordered on March 26th.

My iPad has a very very very tiny amount of light bleed IF I turn the brightness all the way up to 100% and turn all the lights off. If I put it back on auto adjust for brightness (which is what I always keep my iPhone on and probably with my iPad as well) I can see a really really faint trace of it, but nothing that I would have ever noticed if I wasn't looking for it. Certainly nowhere near as bad as I've seen in the pictures here.

So yes, I'm assuming this is a newly manufactured unit, but the bleed is so negligable I just don't care. I don't want to get into the vicious return cycle like I did with my iPhone 4. It's the definition of insanity.

Some do. You must see that bleed at any brightness level. Do you.

Yeah, it's pretty bad on any brightness level only when I'm watching a movie in the dark or looking at a dark image. It's kinda annoying. I have been putting off getting it replaced in anticipation that it will take forever to get a new one since it seems as though the demand is still relatively high. I'm not sure anywhere near where I live has any atm.

Anyone know how readily available they are if I were to make an appointment at the genius bar for a replacement?

I delivered my iPad 16GB WiFi (bought in the european launch at March 25) on April 7.

It had a dead pixel and very bad backlight bleeding (could even see it in daylight).

Just got an e-mail saying that I will be getting a replacement this Friday (damn, those 20 days have been hard!!).. Hope the bleeding will be minimal. I don't expect NO bleeding at all. But seeing it at 80% in daylight even on the home screen is simply too bad to not do something about it.

They always keep replacement units in stock, these are brand new and cannot be sold onto customers. I went in for a replacement got out in 15 minutes with a brand new one, only to find that it still has light leak. If they don't have any in stock for replacement, they would advise you to wait till they have some in their hands or try another branch to see if they've got any replacements.

After all my fears about getting an iPad with backlight bleed issues, I bought one last Friday in London and I am so happy to say it has no blacklight bleed whatsoever. In fact it is totally perfect. My first iPad (gen 1) had bleeding and I returned it, and I was half expecting to do the same here, but no need! Very pleased,,,,no scratches, no bleed, perfect seal around the edge and no dead pixels or screen marks! Whoopee! Very happy....and I love the ipad2 :)
I think it's pot luck or this issue is not as common as the forums would have you believe. Hope you all get the same!

Sent from my iPad 2 White 64gb wifi/3G

Please post some pics when you get chance, in a dark room with little ambient lighting.

Thanks

Thanks +1 When did you go to get a replacement? Instances of this light bleed thing seems to be getting pretty spotty. I'm going to make them show me the screen before I walk away with it. I would like to know that my $600 gadget is free of defects before I waste any more time trying to get it to work. I may just wait until June like you mentioned.

And, sorry. I didn't see your post above that mentioned the same. My bad.

It had an 'F' as the 4th digit too, by the way.

Got mine today too, after March 29th order. No real backlight bleed that I can see. One dead pixel. I can live with that!

PBG: Thanks, I had spotted that somewhere else. I just knew that some people had been asking if the 2s without bleed were still F serials (and of course they would be :) )

The 'F' as the fourth digit only means your iPad was manufactured sometime between January and June, 2011.

Exactly!! :d

At least someone got the idea of this. If Apple decides to fix the backlight leaking issue on the iPad they will do so in the next quarter (there's four quarters in a year). Although the iPad is still being manufactured continuously, there are no changes made to them, unless Apple goes to their drawing board and updates their next batch. Just like with the new MacBook Airs, since it was released last year, the new ones that are manufactured since last month come supplied with better SSDs.

Received mine today from apple and have similar bleeding to others on here when turned up to 100% in a dark room.

Mine came today. Ordered online.

Still got backlight bleed. Also the seal between the screen and bezel in the top left hand corner seems to not reach all the way to the bezel and there is a gap. Only on that side the rest is fine.

My co-worker received his iPad 2 today which he ordered on April 17th. He has pretty much zero backlight bleed at 100% brightness in a dark room. When I put mine side by side with his, mine looked like crap.
