I compared the rMini display to my iPod touch 5G at Best Buy the other day. There is definitely less color saturation in on the Mini. The difference isn't HUGE, but I have to agree that it's unacceptable because the RMini IS supposed to be a premium product for the prices they're charging. Moreover, every other iDevice has the full sRGB spec including the budget 16GB version of the iPod touch fifth-generation! That is a smaller screen in a $229 iDevice that has a higher quality display than the brand new Retina Mini for which you are paying a lot more. It's an unacceptable business tactic to get people to buy the Retina Mini and either find out later and sell it to buy the Air or find out sooner and take it back to buy the Air.

----------

I can see a BIG difference in color saturation, especially in the Podcast and App Store icons.

As I already said, I had the Air for over a month and now have the rMini. I would classify the screen on MY rMini as excellent. There are no yellow or discolored areas, and the display is uniformly bright from side to side. There have been/are issues with this on some people's rMinis that have posted pics on this forum, but they're not ALL that way. As to the color accuracy of the Air vs. the rMini, just because the Air's colors are a little more intense doesn't make them more accurate. You can adjust your TV's colors to be more vibrant and strong, but that's not necessarily accurate and the way it should look. A lot of my personal photos actually look more natural (accurate?) on the rMini than they did on the Air.

I don't see how you can call the colors more accurate. The retina mini only has 63% of the full RGB spec.

Exactly. There is a big difference in screen quality and I can see it immediately. I understand though that many people can't really see the difference.

I've looked at hundreds of rmini screens and compared them side by side.
The biggest issues is not the color gamut but the yellow tint at the bottom one third of the screen. All of them have some unevenness due to the led backlighting but some are a lot worse than others. From my experience it looks like there are two screens, a cooler temp one and a warmer temp one. The warmer temp one suffers from the yellow more often I think.

Easiest way to tell which screen you have is by the keyboard. Warmer temp one will appear yellow when compared to the cooler temp one. So far every single display mode love seen at apple stores, target, walmart, best buy, etc have all been the cooler temp display. Maybe this was all the first batch.. At first I thought the cooler temp one was a better display, However I noticed one thing recently. The warmer temp one appears slightly brighter and the colors pop a bit more. I believe the color gamut might be slightly better on the warmer display. Still not as good as my ipad air but there is definitely a difference in color. I was at my best buy store and had my rmini next to it and compared the icons and several backgrounds. Other than the grey keyboard, everything looked better on my display.

Not to sound rude, but who has the time to look at HUNDREDS of different iPad screens?

Well, regardless of "Color-gamut-gate", one thing's for sure, web links in Safari on the iPad Mini Retina are the blue color they've always been--whereas they can be an odd purplish color on the Air!

I'll take the blue web links any day of the week--that way I know I haven't clicked on them yet. On the Air, you often cannot tell!

Of course, having the bottom third of the screen be slightly yellowish on the Mini isn't great, but then neither is the book spine shadow line running down the side of the screen on the Air either !

I know exactly what you mean about the yellowish non-uniformity. I've been through 2 iPod touch 5G's due to that same issue. The upper right corner near the rear-facing camera had a yellowish tint compared to the rest of the display. I'd take a narrower color gamut over screen non-uniformity any day, too. That said, if the yellowing bothers you, owe it to yourself to exchange it now. It will probably always bug you and for what you're paying, you should be 100% satisfied with your purchase.

iPad rMini 64G WiFi #DLXM30.... : Magenta tint fading to yellow from top to bottom of screen.

I noticed it at the welcome setup process; which I did not even bother completing.

It's going back to the shop tomorrow :(
