After much frustration, I have found a solution, at least for me.

Downgrading is not necessary.

IOS 11 for Apple TV will not read AAC encoded MP4 files anymore. I re-encoded all my movies as AC3 mpeg-4 files and they all play flawlessly. When people create videos from their DVD's, almost every encoder uses AAC MP4 as the default setting. Some people only have iTunes movies, and they should all work fine. This is why some people were having problems and others were not.

Just recode all your movies to AC3 MPEG-4 and you should be fine.

Hope this helps.

Since tvos11 my bluetooth headphone connects/disconnects intermittently all the time - it’s maddening - but since tvos10 was stable in this regard I guess it’s software...

I have experienced the occasional lag, app crashing, and getting stuck in a folder in the home screen.

But tvOS 11 runs much better than tvOS 9 in my experience. About the same as tvOS 10, just with some new bugs that replaced old ones.

Actually, it is amazing to me how buggy tvOS is considering that it has changed very little from the tvOS launch.

Are you an anti-Apple bot? You know, like the Russian bots? If you're for real, then you might need to return your ATV for a replacement. I have had no issues at all.

Ah the classic "I don't have problems with mine so you must be wrong" post, but with a "you must be a bot" spin. Really helpful!

There was a lot of this at the ATV4 launch.

For many posters, the first year of tvOS was filled with frustrating bugs, leaving many with nearly unusable ATV4s.

But post any of those bugs in a thread would automatically get you labeled as an Apple-Hater. I don't know if it is people being really defensive of Apple and really think they can do no wrong, or if they really think that people are faking having these problems.

This is absolutely false. I'm watching an AAC audio encoded file right now.

That said, TVOS11 has been an absolute **** show for me. I can't play many movies off my iTunes server at all. Others take 4-6 minutes to start playing. I'm tearing my hair out I'm so frustrated.

I updated my Apple TV 4th gen. from tvOS 11.? to 11.1 a few days ago. Since the update, I can’t connect neither my iPhone nor my iPad (both 11.1) to the ATV. It is recognized, but won’t connect. The error says I should check if all devices ar powered on and connected to the same network (which they are).

What can I do? Everything was working perfectly before the ATV update

Get a grip..

tvOS 11 has been without its problems.

- The most irritates me is the watched icon (tick) doesn't always appear in 'Computers' when watching TV shows.... some seasons they come up automatically after being watched, while others don't.. A complete restore does not fix this. (that is USB-C connection to iTunes)

This one really gets me, but thank goodness the last show watched *is* still got focused. That's the only thing to go on.

- A lessor problem is in tvOS11 Apple had decided to include the thumbnail u see over the playhead during play to know still image of video restricted to only Movies and TV Shows,,, That means Netflix looses this ability... Could be update that solves this.

That is my only two issues. everything else works 100%

I was too quickly - bluetooth connecting/disconnecting is not gone and still maddening (turned off all bluetooth devices in the house and my Denon BT headset still dis/rd-connects like crazy...

I do have a lot of little problems with iOS 11 on my atv4.
Irresponsive remote
Black screens
Not always shut my tv when I shut the atv
Frequent Restarts of atv
Inoperant fast forward
....
I will downgrade to iOS 10.2.2 before Apple stop signing it.

My advice downgrade before it is too late.

Almost each time i have to restart atv4 in order the computers app to find itunes.....pfffffffff

Shut down iTunes, then re-launch. If that doesn't work Turn off Home sharing on both AppleTV and iTunes, then turn in on turn on in iTunes first, then on Apple TV after

Starting with iOS 11, I get weird random flickering whenever I watch Dolby Vision content on the ATV4. I’ll be watching Netflix, or even sitting in the main Apple TV menu or screensaver, and then it flashes a single frame of corrupt video, it’s described better in this thread in the Apple forums:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8154511?start=0&tstart=0

I’m using the new Belkin cables Apple recommends, because I wasn’t able to pass Dolby Vision without them.

If I turn off Dolby Vision and force the HDR10 mode, then the flickering goes away. But that’s a lousy solution.

I think you are an Apple bot. I have 4 Apple tv’s and have had the same problem. I’m am hardwired, not using WiFi and have the same problems with sluggish response and locking up. My DirecTv now as constantly freezing. Games don’t load. This happens on all four of my appleTv’s . It is also effecting my iPhone 6s and iPad mini. Never had this much of a problem with operating system upgrade. I have been a pole user from the first iPhone and 2nd gen appletv I am using a Roku box so I can watch sports clearly. Fix this now.
