If you always keep your phone in a case, why would it matter?

I have no idea if any Apple leather case has ever scratched my iPhone 5, 6, or X because they are always in an Apple leather case.

It matters cause I can see the bottom of my phone. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m asking if that part being exposed is gonna get scratched up.

Then the answer is "it depends".

I use the Apple leather case and the bottom is exposed but the case lip keeps the metal away from surfaces. My iPhone is treated carefully, it's always in a front pants pocket or a jacket pocket or a cupholder in my car. It's never in a situation where it might rub against keys or anything. I have never seen a scratch on my Space Grey iPhone 5, 6, or X in this leather case.

On the other hand, my wife has the same phone's and cases and she throws her iPhone into her handbag, her backpack, in a rear pants pocket, and yes, her's gets some scratches from being occasionally rubbed against denim, zippers, keys, cosmetics, etc.

Damn will denim really scratch these?

Again, it depends. If the pants pocket is tight and the denim is very coarse (especially at the seams), yes. If the pants pocket is loose and the denim very soft, no.

You're asking about a piece of metal. Look at your car key or your keyfob or your money clip or whatever else is metal and gets used/placed in a similar location to your phone. That's going to tell you how scratched you'll be.

Yeah usually my keys and all that stuff get banged up from other things in my pocket lol. I have change, knife, and whatever else in my left front pocket and only my phone in my right.

I've got an Apple leather case and so far no scratches on the silver band that the case covers. There are very fine, tiny micro marks on the bottom exposed portion which are only visible in direct, bright sunlight. I remove the case about once a week.

The real test will be the summer when I visit a few beachy towns and sand gets everywhere. I try to keep it away from electronics, but it blows in the wind, people track it, and it gets into pockets.

My black silicone case is getting horrible and I'm interested in switching to a leather one, I tried once and It scratched my X (or maybe Itwas already scratched) anyone else can confirm if I'm roght?

I’ve had very small micro scratches on the corner from removing an putting on my sb leather case. Will easily buff out with polishing cloth if it bothers you. I also have a black silicone but prefer my leather case.

Thanks! My silicone one is awful now, discolored I think I’ll get the leather one

Black as well, i loved my black silicone case the first day and the leather One is even darker. Thinking in brown too...

Got any photos?

Do you treat it roughly/shove it in pockets with other items?

Hi,

Here you have a pic.

I treat all my devices like a baby, never put it in my jeans pockets, I don’t recommend the black silicone at all

Thanks bud.

I had to look closely, but I can see stain-like marks on there. Is that what you're referring to?

Are they sweat marks or just from rubbing up along inside of pockets?

I never put the X inside pockets. I think these marks are caused just for holding the phone
