You know how a pet or child has that toy or blanket that they won't let go and carry around with them all day? That's me with the iPad.

-easy to surf the web while on the couch (or let's face it, the bowl)
-cheap games that are addictive
-great to read comic books on
-so much easier to use on a plane than a notebook and don't have to worry about the battery dying mid-flight
-I frequently wake up in the middle of the night and I can read without waking my wife up (can't do that with a Kindle)

I got one on a whim figuring I'd use it a little bit (and if not sell it on eBay or return it) but I probably use it for 90% of my computing at home and 100% on vacation. I admit, for me at least, it's useless at work (too slow to type on and we have specialized software at work) but great for everything else.

My all-time favorite complaint about the iPad from iPad haters: "It's too heavy to use as an e-reader!" Um, but it's lighter than most hardcovers!

And my personal biggest complaint: almost useless in sunlight.

But still...an awesome product that changed the way I use computers.

I took my iPad 3G on vacation and it was a simply outstanding

It's the ideal machine if you do a lot of travel. Only problem is you have to switch it off for take-off and landing.

You guys must not have iPhones.

I'm not sure what I would think of my iPhone if I didn't have an iPad. I got the phone a couple of months before the iPad and I did quite like it. However, now having had the iPad for a while I have to say that I don't really like using the iPhone at all.

Mainly, it's because the screen is far too small for me. You can rarely fit much on it, hitting the correct spot is a problem and I find mobile website particularly unenjoyable.

Perhaps if I had never had the iPad I would like my phone more. As it is, I only use it as a phone and for those times that I don't have my iPad with me and then only if I really have to.

To answer the original question, no it hasn't.

On average, I'd say the time I spend using each Apple product is something like 70% desktop, 25% iPad, 5% iPhone.

However, the iPad is invaluable when it is used.

Basically, people who work on Macs need Macs. At the moment, the iPad is a poor substitute.

I used my MBP/iPhone mainly for leisure purposes and now those two devices are shunned when my iPad is at hand.

It is a phenomenal media consumption device. If it is nothing more than that to you, it doesn't make it worthless! Just because you can't load autocad on your wristwatch doesn't mean you can't use it for other things!

Amen. I travel a lot and it is a whole lot easier taking out my iPad on the plane than dragging out my laptop.

...and as for the "person" in this thread who snidely remarked that those of us who love our iPads must not have iPhones...WRONG! To be honest, I find I do not use my iPhone nearly as much for entertainment purposes after getting my iPad, in fact.

I like having it when i need it but I dont use it that often. I use it at work cause otherwise I wouldnt have anything outside of my iphone for that so thats when it gets the most use. I wish apple would bite the bullet and release flash. I dont come across a TON of flash but when I do boy is it irritating.

Absolutely, Now I feel that my iPhone is too small, I could almost buy a cheap phone instead of my iPhone since it's being underused, and my New MBP is just being used for syncing the iPad

No my iPad is not my life. That would be sad.

I use it... it entertains me while the time I use it. I put it down then I go outside.

When I'm at school, I use the iPad because it's great for taking notes, and watching a quick movie or checking email during lunch.

But, on my MBP I can be watching netflix while I have Gruml and Twitter open, then swap expose to my email and iTunes (or whatever), and I just feel that I can't do that as easily on my iPad. Even with multitasking, I don't feel as 'connected' when I'm using the iPad as when I'm on my MBP.

But I still love the iPad!!!

Again im sure that's not what he meant..

But if he did mean his life than agree its sad haha :D

I like your sig, your toys. Thats exactly what I think of my iPad etc. Its not life changing or improves my life in any way. Its just an entertainment item i use to sometimes browse the net on. Dont use it everyday.. just when I feel like browsing while lying in bed.

Its not something i MUST have with me.. i guess my iphone is a different thing.. I do need that with me at all times becase its a phone.. i need it to comunicate fast or if someone needs me.

These things are mostly materialistic to me. They dont really matter.. they are just fun sometimes.

I enjoy my iPad but for casual use. Until Apple stops crippling it, it will never replace my laptop or desktop. It is good for cruising the Internet but poor to get any real work done.

I know this will p|ss off some of your iPad lovers but I need more than just entertainment.:p

No I meant what I said. Until Apple allows the iPad to do what it could really do, it will be mostly for entertainment. I doubt that is coming as it would compete with it's laptops.

Do not bet me wrong, I love my 3G iPad but is can only do so much!

I await the RIM Playbook

I have been at work for 4 hours now and spent two hours in AutoCad and a little over an hour in Quickbooks, getting the payroll out for my employees. I do not expect an iPad to EVER do the above but just pointing out how it will never be more than entertainment to me and many others.:apple:

Ok, I'll play your little game here. I guess AutoCad and Quickbooks are the benchmarks that we're going to use to define "real work" then? And the RIM Playbook is the amazing device that we'll be able to use to perform said "real work"? That must mean that the RIM Playbook is capable of running both those applications. Right? Otherwise why would you be anticipating it so much?

While we're at it I'll point out that I've never used either AutoCad or Quickbooks. I must not be performing any "real work" either. I wonder why my boss keeps paying me then.

Finally, please explain to me exactly what Apple is doing to cripple the iPad that would prevent it from running either AutoCad or Quickbooks. I understand that it is underpowered for these tasks, but that is a result of sacrifices that were made to accommodate the form factor and to hit the $500 price target. And I assume you're not arguing that the iPad should run a full version of OS X, since the Windows tablets have taught us what a disaster that is. If we were to imagine an iPad that had the horsepower under the hood to actually run these tasks, what OTHER actions has Apple taken that cripples the iPad and would prevent the software makers from releasing iPad versions of these programs?

I wouldnt say mine has become my Life, But I do use it a lot around the house to check the net and what not.

I feel the same way. Except about my iphone :)

Agreed, that is until the iPad 2 drops then my iPhone will get the cold treatment. LOL
