Wow. You removed a useful coating because it had a minor scratch that you could barely see unless you held it at a certain angle? Jeez, that is some serious OCD....

lol welcome to macrumors. The OCD on this forum is totally out of control.

Wow I didn't expect these sapphire displays to scratch so quickly. Then again it's probably the coating that is covering the display.

Hairline scratches on saphire screen (SS Watch)

Hey

Anyone noticed any hairline scratches on the screen of their stainless steel Apple Watch?

I have not, but have a screen protector on it. I really want to take the protector off though, but I really dont want to scratch the screen in the slightest. The svreen protector just looks so god damn awful, so if anyone has a naked watch for a few weeks with no issues despite wearing it all day everyday, please respond giving me the confidence to take mine off!

Check out Moh's Hardness Scale, Sapphire is second hardest to Diamond. Got many diamonds lying around to scratch it?

You poor bastard. Lol

38mm SS here, my wife and kid wear it everyday from 24th, not a single scratch on it.

In fact, I think the sapphire glass should be more scratch resistant than the protector.

I put that military shield (I think it is tech armor) on my 42mm sport last night and it covers the display edge to edge and over the curve. Can't tell it's on there at all, just like I was hoping and it's a little bit of added protection for $7 that I'm glad I have.

Just a small update, still waiting to have it back :(
Yesterday the status on my repair page changed to Product replacement pending, after one week...
I just want it back. Who cares about the invisible scratch lol
I've never been that OCD with my iPhone (never used a screen protector), I won't start with my watch. In the future, no more checking the screen with a flashlight for me :p

sapphire glass scratched!

I scratched the sapphire on my apple watch top left corner. I have no idea what caused it. Does the sapphire have any coating on it?

From the pictures it almost looks like it's under the glass. Could be caused by certain parts not seating correctly. If Thats not the case, I've found my SS screen shows what look like scratches but when I take a microfiber cloth and some sort of solution to them, they disappear.

If you can feel it with your fingernail, you likely bumped into something that will scratch sapphire. It happens.

Could it be paint residue from the object you rubbed against? Kind of like when one car scrapes another it may leave behind some of its paint.

Well, on second look, it's probably not that. It's so fine.

I don't remember bumping into anything. I can feel it with my fingernail. I also tried microfiber cloth, and the scratch can't be removed. It feels pretty deep too.

Sorry to see that.

If it really bothers you you could take it to a watch repair shop and see if they can polish it out.

Sapphire is extremely scratch resistant but by no means is it scratch proof.

Looks like it caught the edge of the case as well?

Yes, that's a heavy knock, clearly. Sapphire is reasonably scratch proof, but if you slam anything hard into it - just like with glass, it will gouge sapphire. So my thoughts are that it's a gouge more than a scratch, given the state of the stainless steel. Must have scraped something nasty.
