Hmm maybe the i7 2.8 has just enough extra horsepower to eliminate that lag. I see it on an i5 2.6 if I switch the res up.

A higher-clocked CPU would definitely help. That's what AnandTech recommended in their reviews last year. I do wonder how the performance is of that on the i7.

Anand was talking about scroll lag in safari, which was a CPU issue and fixed in ML by a safari update (making scrolling GPU accelerated).

Mission Control is already GPU accelerated, making any lag there GPU issue, not a CPU issue. In other words, a faster CPU won't make a lot of difference. A better GPU will. Scaled resolutions simply take a huge toll on the GPU.

thanks guys. i love notebookcheck's reviews. they get into quite a lot of other detail the others don't.

the last thing Anand said was just "it'll likely be November"

For both 15 and 13? I am hoping the 15 review is posted soon.

"i have the 2012 13"" retina i7 (2.9) already, but fortunately our business needed a machine, so it goes to that. to replace for personal use i picked up a haswell i5 2.6, 512 at the store on our discount. it's great! i was amazed how much faster the read/write ssd times are between the models
9qjW
(same 512).
i did a photo job last night (wire) where i didn't have access to power for 4.5 hours on the field. i was doing p/s processing and sending pics and still had 40% power left. i went up to the press room and did another 2 hours of stock work--wanted to see if the battery would hold up. yep it went down to 25%. i was working with a set of over 1000 images.

when i returned home, did another couple of web browsing--just to see if the battery would drain out--it lasted longer than i did. amazing!! the 2012 would have tapped out 2 hours earlier.

btw, the new one actually shuts off in a few seconds (same app load) compared to having to wait forever for the other one to shut down."
As i know, they certainly do last quite some time. The shut off I think is due to Mavericks more than the MBP itself.:D

Snow Leopard is still faster in terms of shutting down. No idea what Apple did to make it that slow in comparison to Snow Leopard. (I'm not using the reopen option when shutting down, so nothing needs to be stored about my current session I think)

Yes, it can be scaled but there are side effects when doing so which is why Apple doesn't recommend it. I think the default resolution is horribly low but I picked up a new 13" Haswell RMBP to test with the new graphics hoping scaled resolutions would run without major lag with the update.

Nope. Lag everywhere when running the non-native res. Screen dragging/enlarging would lag, mission control was bad and the screen saver wouldn't even run at more than 2-3 fps. It would take me about 15 seconds to get my password typed in on the lock screen because the machine was choking over the screen saver in either 'scaled' resolution mode. Perhaps Mavericks is partly to blame, I don't know, but it just wasn't usable.

13" form factor is great, but I already don't care for the low-resolution on my Air and this is going even lower. Sheesh.

Ive got for 2 days my MBPr 13" i5 2.6 8GB 512 SSD and i can report the same lags with a resolution of 1680x1050. Im not lucky with this cause i have here also the same MBPr early 2013 with the same issues. I think the late 2013 should be much better with Haswell and Iris GPU but its not. Only Safari seems runs much smoother now but switch the Desks for example is extremly horrible at this time. Hope it comes a Maverik patch that can fix this and its not a problem of the Iris GPU that maybe work on limit.

I've got a base 15" and run it scaled. There is no lag on anything using Iris Pro only.

Same lags here with the 13" 2.4GHz/8GB

Very annoying because I have to stay at 1440x900, although I'd prefer having more space.

if you use switchresx, you can set the resolution to something not HiDPI (e.g. I use 2048x1280), and it doesn't have to render at 4x the resolution that you are seeing then scale it back down to the screen.

I'm currently running 2048x1280 under OSX, and 1920x1200 in bootcamp. Everything is at 100% without scaling, and it performs perfectly with no lags or stutters.

So anandtech will never put is review up??? Is it supposed to take longer? Im impatient in knowing if i buy the base or bigh model 15 inch!

I think he is delaying his review as long as possible as a sort of conceptual homage to the "Waiting for Haswell MBP" thread. :D

Most of these reviews read like they were written by excited children. I loathe fanboys. I want facts. This is why I like Anandtech reviews. They go in depth and go out and look for problems. Anand is an Apple man, but that won't stop him from finding faults and exposing them. Just say no to fanboys and their useless "reviews"

Everyone is waiting for the AT review.

I honestly would like a review from someone focusing on what's broken, not fixed, or needs improvement. Just to balance out the majority of other reviews which read more like regurgitated press copy and repeating the same things.

True, and what sucks about it. You can really see it in the Verge review. He talks about how cool it is playing portal 2 on the subway. I fell of my chair reading it. Like that was a thing. the early-posted review feels like shallow hands-on just to get content on their site.

and they say what people wanna hear. That's all they do. They you have people like Anand who takes a long time making a review, but actually goes into detail and seems more like he actually knows what he is talking about. TheVerge crew, and Cnet crew all strikes me as wannabe tech editors who wikipedia knowledge. That's okay - I don't blame them for doing great.

I am just sad that everyone rush in excitement to see a review, review, review, and then after a while the majority buys instantly based on these must-get-my-review-up-fast-to-get-more-hits-articles instead of the really good ones. That is a sad trend. we don't hold our editorial content in very high esteem, generally speaking.
