True, and what sucks about it. You can really see it in the Verge review. He talks about how cool it is playing portal 2 on the subway. I fell of my chair reading it. Like that was a thing. the early-posted review feels like shallow hands-on just to get content on their site.
and they say what people wanna hear. That's all they do. They you have people like Anand who takes a long time making a review, but actually goes into detail and seems more like he actually knows what he is talking about. TheVerge crew, and Cnet crew all strikes me as wannabe tech editors who wikipedia knowledge. That's okay - I don't blame them for doing great.
I am just sad that everyone rush in excitement to see a review, review, review, and then after a while the majority buys instantly based on these must-get-my-review-up-fast-to-get-more-hits-articles instead of the really good ones. That is a sad trend. we don't hold our editorial content in very high esteem, generally speaking.
It's a problem across the entire IT spectrum. Just look at the god awful state of the gaming review industry. Most of the major websites are shills for companies as they need the advertising revenue. Word of mouth is a better way to look at things, but even then it's not ideal as obviously people who have problems will bark the loudest.
