Why not just get a keyboard cover? It's stupid to do what your doing. I'd fear the external keyboard would scratch the MBP. Sleep on that.

I have to confess: I did the same thing with my last MBP, but only because it was a non-unibody design and I had seen the following happen on some of them:

So, no matter what odd looks I got from people, I bought a wireless keyboard and used it when I could. :)

Ive never owned a Mac, but I have come to the conclusion after lurking on this thread for some months that macbook owners are very OCD, LOL! I think I will fit right in!

But the one poster is right being a bit OCD does help resell the system later. I have kept a few pcs in tip top shape and gotten about an 80% return on them.

Though I havent received by mbp yet, i did get a moshi guard for it. Does anyone have anything really negative to say about it? I know it will certainly protect from spillis, and I heard it didnt feel like it was there whn you were typing. However, how true is that?

I've been using Saran wrap on my macbooks for years.. Keeps them looking brand new and you can barely even tell it's there. I think I paid $2 for the roll. Just give it a couple wraps around the monitor and a couple around the keyboard and your good to go

I've been using an iSkin Protouch since my PowerBook days and it's still intact. And it still works with the unibody models too. :D

Like I said. I have a moshi clearguard but I cannot stand the way it feels. Desk is kind of limited on space for now, so it's a temporary solution. Been typing this way for a few weeks - no scratches I can see. So..no won't sleep on it. It works.

I have the clearguard and you can feel it. It is stiffer than silicone skins to my fingertips. The middle of the plastic depresses but not the outside ridges if that makes sense. I always mistype when I use it and cannot type my normal speed.

I have a friend who took an invisible shield.

Cut it up to the size of the keys roughly.

Stuck them on each key.

It took about 3 hours of work, but my friend is more than pleased.

Me, I don't mind oily spots, but I did use a Moshi with great success due to the excessive amount of dog hair from my huskies.

But you already said that wasn't an option for you.

Personally, I'd just take the oily spots and use the keyboard. It's meant to be used.

Wow that is a great idea. I do have an extra palm rest cover from my invisible shield.
