My phone has zero scratches. Well, it did until I took a look at the lens just now. Picture quality isn't affected in the slightest so I really don't care much. I wouldn't even call it superficial damage since I had to hold the lens 3" from my eye to even see the tiny scratches. Fact is, though, that the lens probably is more susceptible to scratches than the rest of the body.Unless you routinely slide your phone across sandpaper, it shouldn't affect you at all. Even a cracked lens takes surprisingly unaffected photos.

Who really believes these iPhone 4 screens are really scratch resistant? I added an invisible shield on my phone with a bumper, but can still scratches on my home button (it isn't covered). How could the home button possibly be scratched if all that usually touches it is mine and my gfs finger?
I bet without my protection film, the phone's screen would have little scratches from our nails or what not.
How many of you without a film have scratches on your LCD screen?
The home button is made out of plastic and the screen is made out of glass.
Trust me, the glass does not scratch easily.
Oh you can scratch the glass on it and it ain't that hard, I wouldn't have it naked. I just got 2 1/4" scratches on my 3gs screen![]()
What are you doing with your iPhone? I've had every iPhone ever made and my screens are perfect.
I don't use screen protectors either.
Not doing anything, and you must not use it much or something lol. All it takes is it to be mixed in a pocket with something bad.
What gets me is how the display unit at ATT is all scratched up lol.
No scratches but I'm noticing dust in mine..
I got the phone on launch day. I went from an Incipio case to the bumper when Apple was giving them out for free. Then last month, I switched to naked. I noticed the photo quality from the camera seriously went downhill starting last week... that's when I noticed all of the scratches on the camera!!!
Here are some pictures, taken side by side at the same exact time. One from my phone, the other from my wife's iPhone 4.

If I can find a good enough camera, I'll take some pictures of my camera lens.
What are the odds Apple will fix this for me for free? I'll probably drop by the Apple store to see what they say.
the ip4 definately needs (at least) a bumper.Same exact issue. Although I must be extremely careless in placing my phone down places. It ended up bothering me so much that I took the back off and popped off the lens cover entirely. It may be dangerous leaving the camera exposed (at least it's recessed), but better quality photos is well worth it in my opinion.
