they have never been bad

my brothers screen was yellow. after a month of use it looks just as white as my launch iphone 4

its the optical glue or white leds that must be the problem, but look at any month+ used iphone 4s are proof that the yellowing goes away

Yeah, no. The screen doesn't get "better" after use. Not sure how the screen becomes whiter and crisper after a month ?!? It's either a coating problem or a screen issue. The new phone I have appears yellow from different angles as well as blue. My old phone was blue all around.

First thing I noticed too. Look at my picture at the end of page 1. Does your phone look more on the left side than the right?

My phone is not as bad as the left. However, it's not blue/crisp white like my first phone. I am headed back to the store today to get it replaced or get my old phone back. I am not in the mood to deal with this crap all over again. I had to "deal" with it with the 3GS and it pissed me off to no end.

Replacement iPhone will always be the same phones people so freely reject for another. Apple users are picky and I bet Apple keeps a butt load of rejects.

Agree!

I know. But AFAIK the returned iPhones that are in good working condition even if there are cosmetic defects, yellow screen, etc, go back to ATT/VRZ. The ones that do not work are sent back to apple.

I don't know about VRZ, but ATT sells the phones that have been returned in the 30 day period as blemished/used. They don't send them to Apple.

Wrong! Refurbished is a myth. There is no such thing, all the phones you guys are getting are the OCD rejected ones LOL.

Both of those screens look like crap!

I suggest calling Applecare then

I went back in today and tried to find an acceptable replacement. After two tries, they denied me any further replacements. The manager stated that the yellow will go away after a week and it's due to the glue in the screen. I asked her if my screen will also have better detail (my old one was crisp, deep and detailed) and she said yes! I was like O.K. I said what if the screen is still yellow after a week? She said to come see her and we would go from there.

I have no hopes about any of this so more than likely this will be my phone until the new iPhone comes out. Lesson learned? ALWAYS buy an iPhone AT LAUNCH! I never have a problem with launch phones. Only replacements. Makes no sense.

The genius bar guy was playing stupid and trying to trick me. I told him I wanted THIS phone and he said, that's the phone you said look bad. I said, Yeah I know. It looks the best out of the other two crap ones you showed me. He was trying to be all sly because I picked the one I was complaining about.

Anyways. I'm done :)

Good for him, I would have probably done the same for a super picky customer that opens multiple brand new phones and still isn't' happy

Give it more than a week it will get better

as for the guy that posted a link to a picture, that one on the right side is not normal, that isn't a color temperature issue that looks like some of the LED's in the LED backlight aren't working correctly

They tried put out a whole bunch of phones and asked you about which one looks best? That's not really how it should work. At that point they need to open a retail box and just give you that one, the replacements are in dire need of some quality control.

never knew ther was an issue with yellow screens, i will remember this if i ever get a replacement!

The replacements are terrible quality in my opinion. The three I have seen all were dented and dinged across the metal band (easily visible in a picture). The only positive were no dead pixels on 2 of the 3. Apple quality control seems to be non-existant but when youre selling more than you can make I guess that happens.

They weren't brand new, they were refurbished. I was not being picky either. You could see the issue from across the counter after it was activated. I asked them to open them up until they said no. They didn't just open them up and say pick one. That would have been too easy.

I am still curious as if this is an issue only with the refurbs or do new phones have this yellow screen problem?

In another thread someone mentioned that new phones also have yellow screens.

Yeah the right isn't normal? Honestly, you must be blind. The right is normal compared to the left. This is even what an Apple supervisor said on Applecare when I called hence why I ended up getting a brand new retail box phone after showing them that picture.

Yellow tinted refurbs are terrible quality. We aren't OCD when we say that. Hell my last replacement had scratches and 4 chips from the glass.

Ive noticed brand new phones are different. And to Absolutc. You have even said you have never had an issue with new phones and only refurbs. Me neither and I've had every iPhone. ALL refurbs I've ever received are terrible which is why I'll always always call Applecare now and never go into the stupid bar.

I would do Applecare but I don't have another $600 to have held while it's switched.

So, if you go to a store you get some 'second hand' replacement, but if you phone AppleCare you get a brand new straight from the factory handset?

Is this the same here the UK? I'm fairly certain under UK/European law you can't replace something under warranty with a second hand item. Under an insurance claim for non-warranty covered damage yes.

it is in apple legal notices that Apple can get you a new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability for warranty replacement.

Since my iPhone home button broke, I had to get a replacement. Applecare said they dont give brand new ones but this was a lie.

Got it replaced at an Apple store, the screen is yellow/brown.

Im selling my phone when my upgrade is here June 23. Sucks to move on from the iPhone but the quality control is very very downhill. Ive used Apple for 10+ years now.

Called Applecare Friday. They are sending me a replacement, no charge and of course a hold on my CC. We shall see how it stacks up against a phone that was exchanged at the store.

i got a refurbished replacement about a week ago. it has a completely normal screen. i only hope it doesnt have dead pixels as i have not checked that yet.
