I know, but I wouldn't call this a disadvantage vs the 11" Air. It offers more flexibility. From what I've read, the new MacBook is shipping set to the 1200x800 resolution, FWIW.

I agree. I wasn't trying to say different, but explaining the difference between resolution and real estate.

The earlier poster said it had a resolution disadvantage to the 11" air, thus my confusion.

Understand. Yes he could have said a real estate disadvantage, (which is not actually true because of the scaling options)

Really? So I can't even try out 2304 x 1440 without buying some utility software???

The reviews have allayed some of my reviews but have given me some that weren't there before.

I'm less worried about the keyboard than I was, as the shallowness of the keys was something that really concerned me. I have a 2012 rMBP and even on that I find myself missing the travel distance of the older MBPs. I find it way more satisfying to type on keyboards where the keys depress further, but that may just be me. Most people seem to be quite optimistic about the keyboard, and I'm sure I would get used to in time. I've also seen a few dudes saying that the keyboard feels a bit cramped for them, but I'm slightly encouraged by this as I have small hands.

I am slightly more worried about the processor than I was, as some people have been reporting lag on the 1.1 version. As a result of this I'm going to wait until people's BTO machines have been shipped for a realistic comparison between the 1.2 and 1.3. Likewise with the SSDs - some people seem to think they'll come with the newer, faster drives, others think they'll be the older, slower ones.

Great! Thanks for the tip.

I want to try it out, regardless of how small the text may appear to be.

I bought one regardless of the reviews and of my personal opinion of them. I buy and try every new Apple product. If I like it, great, I'll keep it. If I don't, I'll return it or better yet, I'll be one of the first people in the US to have one and Im sure I will have zero problem selling it.

Mike, any opinion of how it compares to QuickRes?

After trying it out at the Apple store, and verifying they did not have stock on hand, I cancelled my online order. Will wait for a refurb, or buy direct from local Apple store. Playing with it first hand removed all excitement, and now its just a normal purchase.

I use Quickres on my rMBPs, mainly because it can be set so that a single click on the menu bar icon changes to the other res I mostly use. Really one click, no dropdown and select. It is so quick and easy I do it often.

FWIW I use DisplayMenu on my iMac. It's free and works perfectly.

Nothing has changed my mind but, now that I have to wait 3-4 weeks for my 1.3 GHz gold version, I will get to see reviews of the 1.3GHz before my time to cancel is up.

Do a lot of guys buy gold computers?

Wow that is a tremendous amount of worry you are carrying on your shoulders. I hope it all works out.

I order my Wife and Daughter gold, I ordered gray. I suppose they will all end up in cases anyway - they saved my first rMBP several times. My 2015 rMBP will be homebound if this thing can handle Parallels and a memory hog of a work program I have to run demos on. I ordered the 1.3/256 combo (of note my Late 2013 base rMBP did not do well with all of these, the 2015 rMBP with i7 16GB and 512GB HD is running like a freaking desktop.

Do you look at gold as being feminine?

Yeah. It's really keeping me awake at night. /s

I guess people around here may have a lot more free cash hanging around than I do, but when I'm buying anything new, I need to know that it's not going to be a lemon that will slow to a crawl in a year or two. Looking at some of the Windows systems running core Ms that could be a genuine possibility.

I'm not worried because I expect to fully test it out before the 15 day refund period.

I've never been sure if the same rules apply in the UK as the U.S., and didn't want to risk being stuck with something I didn't like.

Although I am feeling more and more inclined to just order one and hope...

Thank you both for the input. I've never used any of these. Might want to try them on this one.

To be honest, I thought the gold would be too much BLING. In real life the color and the matte finish make it more subdued than I would have thought, even less (to my eye) than the pictures on Apple's web site. I think people who ordered that will like it.

It looks more copper almost than gold.

I am still waiting to find out how this thing performs when it's not plugged in. I haven't seen any reviews mention this and normally benchmarks are done with the device plugged in.

How does that make a difference? Wouldn't a machine perform the same whether or not you're charging it?

Unfortunately not. Normally there is extra throttling going on when a laptop is not plugged in to increase battery life.
