Today swapped from the iPhone 12mini to the 13mini. The camera IS noticeably better. Battery as well but a little unfair since my 12mini was 90% battery health anyway. Oddly I preferred the 12 mini without a case but the 13mini feels better with it. Solid, perfect weight, perfect size for me. I wanted to get the 13 pro so bad but there's no way I could go from this weight to that. Much more of a powerhouse phone this year. Screen is great, looks almost the same to me, but the overheating is gone.

Mini still massively flies under the radar for many who would love it! The size is simply perfect for many but the 12’s battery life I think pushed a fair few towards the larger device this year just in case when perhaps they didn’t actually need to with the 13 mini improvements.

Enjoy your new phone

I agree, went from a 12 to a 13 mini and love how perfect the size is. I hate heavy phones as much as the pros were tempting, it’s too heavy for my liking. I can’t believe how much power is in that tiny phone.

Yes!
Posted the following in a different post.

Got a launch day iPhone 13 Pro Max due to the battery life. Coming from a 12 Pro, I didn't think the weight/size would bother me as much. After 4 days of use, I was getting hand cramps, the phone felt too heavy and bulky to carry around. Yes, battery life is AMAZING. Would last me 2 days. But im not a power user. I don't record videos and am not on my phone 24/7. I definitely wasn't fully taking advantage of the battery life.

Went to the store and got a 13 mini to test it out and see if the smaller battery would be enough for me. So far, im absolutely in love with the mini. Its so incredibly light, small, and therefore pocketable. I barely feel it in my pockets. Also, the battery has lasted me all day. Yesterday was a very heavy day usage wise, and at the end of the night the phone was at 18% before I plugged it in. Im definitely returning the Pro Max tomorrow.

yep, I'm really loving mine, having come from an iPhone 8 Plus it's just so much more comfortable to hold without even sacrificing that much screen estate. I had a go on the regular-sized 12, because my girlfriend who also has a mini worried the mini would be too small for me, but nah, it's the perfect size. Slightly baffled really that anyone who doesn't have a specific use-case for a big Pro phone would go for the regular 13 over the mini.

Oh, these posts make deciding so much harder! I was absolutely certain a year ago that I would get a 13 mini when it came out, upgrading from my SE 2020. But... but... but... the one thing I know I would use ALL THE TIME on a Pro is the telephoto lens. Though there are several other things that are technically more advanced on the Pro, I would forego them all for the perfect size and weight of the mini. But... but... but... the telephoto! Arrrrgh!

I should just go ahead and get the Pro, with the expectation to return it if after a few days I just can't deal.

EDITED TO ADD: Oh, wait, it's you! So the decision not to get the Pro turned out to be a good one, it appears! That's great!

Had the same debate as you pretty much, I've just ordered a mini. I've decided that I can just get lens attachments for it for when I want to do more with it. That makes it cheaper for me than buying the pro, as well as meaning I can keep the form factor I prefer and distribute the lenses in another pocket or bag if I'm carrying one.

What brand of external lens attachments do you use?

It'll be my first time trying external ones, so I've no suggestions yet, just starting research, and wondering why I've never tried it before too.
Really hoping it will work as a compromise.

I had been looking at that, too. Moment and Sandmarc are the two I've been looking at. Moment seems to have a whole ecosystem of things, not just the lenses.

I'm a little leery of going that route, just seems another thing to carry, especially if you might come across something at any time of any day, and so do you carry the lens everywhere you go? But I do think it is a good compromise, you're right. Reviews seem positive from camera guys on using Moment lenses.

Really happy with the smaller form factor. This feels so much better in my hand. It’s the right size for its place in my life. Maybe I’d make different decisions if I spent all day staring at it, but I don’t. The size is right, and the battery is way more than enough for what I need from it. Best of all, I can go back to using it one handed.

Apple really should keep this small form factor iPhone in its catalog. Obviously it's not going to sell as well as big brick phones, but it's a well rounded unique product for people who really care. It's an awesome, powerful and complete little device!
I think they will just merge the small-phone and entry-level markets with the next SE.

I have a 12 mini and really hope the next SE redesign will be the 13 mini with an A16/17 slapped on in 2023/2024.

Edit: Apple, feel free to drop MagSafe to help cut cost. :p
This is the first sane “SE wishlist” that I’ve seen. It goes right to the apparent philosophy of the SE. Still, I THINK that requires the minis to be a hit, so they’ve got parts coming out of their ears. Fingers crossed!

Hoping the much improved battery life makes the mini sell better this year.

Not sure whether Apple would use Face ID for the SE though, seeing the non-Pro iPads don’t even get it.

Totally.

They should keep it in the line up for people which want the latest and greatest in a small form factor. And no Android Phone has that. I think some people will switch because of the Mini. But from rumors SE3 will not get a redesign but the 4.7inch old LCD form factor with TouchID. And no iPhone 14 Mini. But maybe the generation after that. Who knows. The 13 Mini will be quite up to date for a few years. And hopefully then there will be a similar device to the 13 Mini. Or a folding iPhone which folded is as small as the Mini.

Perhaps I am underestimating consumers, but I don't think this has much to do with the poor sales of the 12 mini. Among the folks likely to post on a site like this, sure, but I think the large numbers that Apple needs would have to come from people that had a chance to react to just the mini's size, and didn't. That's the only superficial difference between the mini and the full-sized 12 or 13. I don't have a good feeling that it will be around beyond this year. Unless the pandemic is what artificially kept sales of just the model low, somehow. Perhaps because people couldn't go to the Apple Store and see and hold it?

Can anyone tell me if there is the Raw option when using camera app on Mini? I know ProRaw isn’t there but I saw a video that made it seem like Raw was still an option.
