This is fascinating to read. I have an XS that I really love. Not sure I'm gonna replace at all--but when I wander into the store to "visit" the new phones and see if I'm gonna get interesting...and the mini is the one that keeps attracting me. I'm afraid of text size etc but the reduced form-factor really tempts me as the change I'd enjoy.

We get so caught up in looking at the better battery and/or photos of the top-of-the-line phones, but the Mini would still be a big step up from my XS. Interesting that more folks on this thread are comparing the Mini to the Pro, rather than to the regular 13.

I was in the gym yesterday for the first time with the 13 mini and it was so nice putting it in and taking it out of my pocket to record exercises. I also took it for a short run and the lower weight was definitely a plus. I'm using my iPhone 7+ around the house as a small tablet now. It is now my backup phone - if I need something bigger, I can just use that.

camera is not even close! sorry it is just not- someone here in my house has the 13 mini and camera sucks compared to my max..

Examples please… as I have used both. The distance is small. Using the main wide camera in decent light, there’s next to zero difference.

Plenty of examples online, videos as well as two well known photographers on YouTube who actually rate the mini as much as the pro models.

Low light in general. Still not as good as the pro - hence pro. You don’t think they made it pro just die more weight do you? :)

I know this thread is about the Mini but I have the regular 13 and wanted to share my experience with the camera.

The main sensor on this camera is phenomenal. I throughly enjoyed the sensor on my iPhone 11, but colors and detail are so impressive on this sensor. And for mini users, to get this sensor (one from 12 PM) into the Mini is incredible.

The Mini intrigues me and I hope they keep it. I went from the regular 11 to regular 13 because I liked the size of the 11 minus the weight and width (the thicker bezels if you recall). The 13 solves both of those (20 grams lighter and narrower).

Today swapped from the iPhone 12mini to the 13mini. The camera IS noticeably better. Battery as well but a little unfair since my 12mini was 90% battery health anyway. Oddly I preferred the 12 mini without a case but the 13mini feels better with it. Solid, perfect weight, perfect size for me. I wanted to get the 13 pro so bad but there's no way I could go from this weight to that. Much more of a powerhouse phone this year. Screen is great, looks almost the same to me, but the overheating is gone.
can you use your old 12mini case(s) on the 13mini?

If you look at photos from the 13 pro photos thread on here, there is no noticeable difference. If I were to reply with a low light 13 or 13 mini low light photo no one would question it, that was my point.

A difference, but not one that is that noticeable.

I know the difference, but the sensor is not that much different from the one in the regular models specification wise.

Same with the 12 pro max photo thread, I see no real difference between photos from that thread, and ones in the 13 pro thread this year.

There are many videos comparing the two phones camera abilities. One thing that is nice is that Pro's and regulars are fundamentally the same in each series other than size feature set and battery. So if you watch an iPhone 13 video on cameras, the mini will follow suit. The 13 series are probably gonna be the final iteration of this current design. Supposedly, the iPhone 14 will be a redesign. To me the biggest factor is the weight. You have to want to carry a heavier phone if you want the pro features. I have an 8 so for me its whether I want my pants to stay up or not with a heavier iPhone 13 Pro 😆

My main concern was camera quality. I'm... not too concerned anymore😮

Was gonna skip, but since the battery in my Mini 12 seems to be degrading fast and i'm worried about resale value if it continues like that.... i ordered one after all. Plus i really like the red color this year. And who knows when we will get a new Mini iPhone..

A store had it in stock, so i should get it soon.

12 Mini is down to 89% battery health already....
My X was at 90% after 3 years! (98% after 1.5 years)
Magsafe might have an impact here though.

I don't think that I've ever had an iPhone that lost that much battery health in one year.

One other reason for me to upgrade from my iPhone 7+: I can get WiFi signals that are further away. My guess is that voice is using newer frequencies. I was getting the "All Circuits Are Busy, Please Try Again Later" from my carrier in making calls on my old phone and no such problems with the new one. I don't use any Cellular Data either but I'd guess that performance is a lot better compared to five years ago.

I am really enjoying the mini; it's so pocketable.

Also, one-handed use. Last time I did this was with the iPhone 5.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading for the same reason, my battery is down to 92% on my 12 mini. I never used MagSafe but I do use a wireless charger each night. Is wireless charging a culprit for quick battery health degradation? I used the same charger for my 8+ and that had 96% health after 3+ years!

My 7+ has 100% health. It has had one battery replacement. I'm kind of amazed to see the battery degradation mentioned here. I've never used wireless charging or high-power charging.

Totally.

They And no Android Phone has that. I think some people will switch because of the Mini. But from rumors SE3 will not get a redesign but the 4.7inch old LCD form factor with TouchID. And no iPhone 14 Mini. But maybe the generation after that. Who knows. The 13 Mini will be quite up to date for a few years. And hopefully then there will be a similar device to the 13 Mini. Or a folding iPhone which folded is as small as the Mini.

I think the mini will surprise a lot of people in sales these next few quarters

Does anyone who has had the 12 pro or 13pro have any issues seeing text size with the mini? That’s my concern …..

why would this be a concern? iOS ensures text size is quite uniform and works for various sizes of iPhones since the old 3.2” OG, 3G and the 3GS, 5/5S. You can always adjust the font sizes to suit your needs just like in every iPhone out there.

if don’t size of text was not an issue for any app on older iPhones you’ve used it’s not going to be an issue.

Personally, I prefer small text on my computing devices even though I wear glasses to see and drive to read signs. At arms length away I like the gained screen real estate apps take advantage of on iOS, iPadOS macOS and windows since XP to Win10 Professional currently. (Drives me nuts in supper and seeing 1) full screen apps on a computer with such wasted space or with 300% magnified for in a browser but hey that suits others and I have to adjust.

that’s the key either you can adjust the is or you adjust or get what suits you.

Two comments not in favour of the mini. You’re not gonna change others minds in this dedicated thread so why bother? What do you have to gain by trashing the mini if it doesn’t suit your needs. Choose what works for you but this thread is focused on the mini for those considering or enjoying it. To anyone get what works for you. Usually your first hunch based on info you have usually is the best choice.

Interesting you mention the overheating. Is that a common thing with the 12 mini, and the 13 mini in comparison runs cool?

Curious because my 12 mini randomly gets hot- indoors where it’s only 65 degrees, with light use just browsing Reddit or Facebook… tonight was the 3rd time in a month it’s gotten legitimately hot in that scenario- I turned it off for a few minutes to cool it back down.

Normal for this model, or warranty claim type of issue?

13 mini is a fantastic phone, I am tempted to use this as a reason to upgrade. Lol
