It's obviously still coming. People who think otherwise are completely out of touch. That 27-inch segment is way too big on both sides of the PC and Mac market to ignore.

More importantly, this whole integrated desktop form factor is what Apple does best. No one else can make an 11.5mm thin high performance computer.

Apple just confirmed to Arstechnica that the 27-inch iMac has reached end of life.

Sorry to trample on your hubris, but Apple confirmed to Arstechnica that the 27-inch iMac has reached end of life.
show us that Apple confirmed that NO bigger imacs will come in the future (not just the 27 size)
they just confirmed that the 27" size imac has reached end of life...
The game is in the words
Apple made more money from the bigger imacs for decades...so if Apple wanted to shut down they wouldnt made the 24"

While I do very much like the Mac Studio and Studio display designs, I am disappointed there will be no more larger screen iMacs. I was hoping for a 32" iMac Pro. I'll eventually upgrade my iMac Pro but I now kind of want to hang on to it a little longer. It still flies for me and I love the space gray color of it. At some point I'll need to move to silicon I guess though.

Since we're demanding ridiculous things here, how about you show us that there is a bigger iMac coming?

At the moment, there is ZERO evidence of bigger iMacs coming, but you are free to believe whatever you like. Hope is a powerful thing.

Personally I really hate iMac as a product. All-in-one computer is the worst of both worlds. It has to be thin it's incapable to handle the heat of desktop chips and/or graphics so it must do with some laptop parts. But it's not really portable either since it has 24" display or more, and you have to plug it in all the time? I don't know why anyone would pick an iMac over a true desktop, or a laptop.

I've been burned buying an 27" iMac once for various problems it had, I'm glad that Apple decides to keep display and Mac separate despite some of its usual quirks (i.e you need a Mac to use the Studio Display to its fullest potential), but it's a nice change of direction.

I still enjoy using my 2017 5k iMac. It’s easy to set up and takes up less space on my desk. The screen is gorgeous and great for zoom calls and working on spreadsheets. It made working from home for me so much better during the last two years.

We already know that because it’s not in the Apple Store. It says nothing about a replacement. Or do you think Apple broke their own rule and decided to suddenly comment on future products? LOL

Dont think so. An 27inch iMac with M1 Max would be essentially the same thing as Mac Studio with M1 Max and Apple Studio Display. Apple's messages is clear to me: If you want desktop M1 Max, you should buy Mac Studio. If you dont need it, go for M1 iMac. The iMac Pro was a necessary as the Mac Mini couldn't offer the level of performance many desktop users needed, and at the same time couldn't afford a Mac Pro. With Mac Studio they already fill that gap.
The Studio setup is twice the price. What are Apple offering people looking for the lower end (but still great) performance but with a larger screen, ie the people who bought 27” iMacs in the past?

sales of the bigger imac speak for themselves , and second Gurman and other still wait for a bigger imac pro
Now show us your point of view ...since its clear you dont understand what apple is saying in that statement
Again, maybe Apple told them that 27 intel reaches its end of life, or maybe that the 27" size reached its end of life(or maybe both)...so you cant be sure, since the person who asked Apple didnt known how to put the question properly
If someone will ask Apple if there will be no other size than 24" in the future of imac lineup, i bet you will get nothing from Apple

Apple already confirmed to Arstechnica that the 27-inch iMac has reached end of life. See the very end of the article.
Agreed. Apple made it pretty clear in Tuesdays presentation that the upgrade path from the 27 inch iMac Pro was the Studio.

Then that said the iMac Pro was finished.

Yet still people are in denial.

Thinking back to Apple’s Mac strategy in the twenty tens, I think it’s going to be seen as a low point for the company. And the iMac Pro was part of that drift.

I don't really mind the 27" iMac is discontinued. I love my 24" but I would love to see maybe an M1 Pro chip option in the 24"
(Although M1 is pretty powerful already - I've not bumped into any issues)

Apple’s desktop segmentation is looking pretty clear - maybe the clearest to date.

Apple will keep its iconic iMac at 24” as that form factor, performance and price point are perfect for ~60% of desktop computer users. These will sell very well for years to come.

~30% of desktop users fall into the graphic designer, motion graphics, audio, video, animation, etc. segment. This segment needs more performance than iMac offers and definitely need a larger screen. Insert Mac Studio (+ Studio Display). It will be the default desktop for this segment.

For the final ~10%, those power users will want the configurability and expansion that a Mac Pro line offers (and the display to match).

So what about Mac mini? I guess that will service the entry-level desktop user that wants to bring a larger display to the game that the 24” iMac but doesn’t need the performance (and cost) of the Mac Studio. And now, Apple offers a way to get that “larger than 24” display” money from users: hello Studio Display.

And for the users that need/prefer the portability of a laptop but need to connect to a larger display when at a desk (like me), Apple now has you fully covered with the addition of Studio Display to their tiered laptop offering.

Maybe I’m tired, maybe I’m dehydrated, but Apple’s lineup has never seemed more simultaneously broad and focused than it is today (especially when Mac Pro goes ASi). Feels like their dialing it in a bit more.

He is right, i also looked for the 27" m1 max/ultra, and the price would be around the M1 max studio+studio display maybe $100 difference
Again its imppossible that the imac with m1 max to be under $1500 since you said half the price

I think that when Apple is talking about Products such as "one more to come -> Mac Pro" they are referencing to product lines and not individual products.

A bigger iMac wouldn't be a new product line, it would just sit next to the 24"iMac. they actually do the same by naming both MacBook Pro models, just MacBook Pro. They rarely say 14" and 16" MacBook Pro. They just name the line.

What I am trying to say is: When they say there is only a Mac Pro still coming, they are not saying that there is no bigger iMac coming. And yes, 27-inch iMac has hit its end of life, because a bigger machine will be probably bigger than that. I am sure they wouldn't sell it as a pro machine and only keep it with a M1 or M2 chip. But a bigger screen will come. Otherwise it makes no sense calling the current iMac still the "24" and not just "iMac".

I suspect it’ll be the rumoured Mac mini with m2 pro & studio display. So hang on in in there if you don’t need to upgrade yet.

I get that you’re passionate about the iMac Pro but likely you are in not a big enough target market for Apple to make a true successor to the iMac Pro for.

And Apple seems to have decided that the studio is simply a better solution.

I think the only problem right now is the lack of a desktop system with a pro processor.

I think this is all similar to the iPhone 12 & 13 mini. Yes there are big fans of those phones but they simply didn’t sell enough to justify continued investment.

Well I'm glad that I didn't wait and bought a 24" M1 iMac to replace my old 27" last year.

My father on the other hand is going to be very disappointed, as his 2015 27" iMac is failing (fusion drive kaput!) and he likes the larger screen size for his photos. He's certainly not going to be in the market for a Mac Studio, though perhaps I may be able to bring him around to considering a Mac Mini with the studio display. All he wants is a large screen not insane processing power, and I know he'd much prefer an all-in-one.
Tell him to get an ssd for his computer, it will run faster too

Tell your father to find a Mac repair shop that will install an ssd where the fusion drive currently is. The install may cost around $90 plus the cost of the new drive. He’ll feel like he has a brand new computer that’s better than ever.

Your 27" iMac is a Studio display paired with the upcoming M1 Pro (maybe M2) mini.
The next large all in one will be in the Studio family, with Studio pricing (iMac Studio).

iMac Pro was hella thin. I do not think the Max/Ultra could fit heatwise. It is a shame.

But seeing the line up of Apple products in general being all over the place, pretty sure there will be replacement.

27” is too close to 24”. iMac Pro aside, I think we see a 30” iMac at some point starting at ~$2,000. There is a big hole in the lineup now.
Even if it does come, It'll only start at that price point if it has a basic M1 in it I think. It'll probably be higher for the Pro/Max chips

Let it go!

People have seemed obsessed with a 27" since a year ago when the 24" was released.

Personally, I sold my 27 for a 24 as I really didn't think a loss of 3" was a big deal and indeed it wasnt. I had a feeling that there would not be a 27 replacement.... or at least one that wasn't super expensive.

That said.... this is all very clear. Apple is really un-blurring the lines between CONSUMER and PROFESSIONAL.

The M1 is so powerful... and is in the entry level machines. To people who just need a machine for web browsing, email, photos, youtube, messaging..... the M1 is more than enough... and apple know that.
The PROs who feel they need more processing power which of course the M1 pro, max, and ultra provide.

Most normal people, I imagine, are in the market for a MacBook Air, 13" MacBook pro at a pinch, Mac Mini, or 24"iMac.... those options (including iPads) cater very well.

From Apple's new lineup.. personally id never be in the market for the studio, large MacBook pros, mac pro.

The 'clever' part this time is that Apple have now released a display which is affordable (in apple terms) and if you want that big screen you can and pair it with a MacBook air, or mac mini (or depending on what iPadOS 16 brings maybe even sensibly an iPAD). That said if Apple knew what was good for them they would announce a huge increase in software potential for the iPads... taking full advantage of the M1 that they are now putting in there... AND make a desktop experience if you connect it to the 27" display - I can certainly see that coming.
Also with the advent of universal control using iPad screens together with macs you can make all the screen real estate you want.

So, for now, if im obsessed with size then I have the perfectly decent option to buy the 27" display. Im not sure an all-in-one needs to cater for bigger screens anymore.

I am fully with you on this. I was personally really surprised when I read that people were seeing John Ternus' statement as 'the end of the 27" iMac'. I only thought that he means the Mac Pro is the only device that hasn't received Apple Silicon yet (as there already is an AS iMac), all other devices have (at least partially) received it, as they still offer the Intel Mac Mini.
