I'm seeing if this is possible for me lol.

I did manage to get myself down to a Tumi Slim Card Wallet a few years back.

I'm not so sure I can get all the way down to a MagSafe Wallet. I've added most of my items to the iOS wallet so that part is ok but I still seem to need:

  • DL
  • Costco card
  • CCW card
  • and then I can still get my paper vehicle reg in there

But I'd like to also have my bank card lol

Thoughts?

How are you handling your wallet needs?

MagSafe wallet with ID, debit and Apple Card. Secondary wallet in my car that has the rest of my credit cards, loyalty cards, library card, CCW, VA ID, etc.

Got the wallet in January and haven't had a single instance where I've been out and needed something I didn't have.

I think the whole idea of getting down to a minimalist wallet is to consider what are the things you use every day (or need to have on you every day) that need to be physical. DL of course. CCW makes sense, I assume you need that on you at all times. But Costco card can live on your phone. You can show it on your Costco app to get in, don't need the physical card. Vehicle reg I also don't get, have always kept that in my car. If you get rid of those 2 you should be able to get your bank card in easy.

I just have DL, a physical credit card for places that don't take Apple Pay, and a bank card in case I need cash and it's not an Apple Pay ready ATM.

I don't even bother with a wallet. I just carry my driver's license and one credit card in my pocket.

Why carry your vehicle registration? Just put it in your glove box.

The only other cards I have. I just keep in my car. Basically a backup credit card, some cash and Costco card. I only take those out of my car when necessary. Sticking them in my pocket without a wallet. Everything else is on my phone.

It might seem odd at first. You might even be hesitant. Going minimalist and ditching the wallet is great though. It's so comfortable having hardly anything in your pockets.

If you can, minimize your keys too. To get rid of that uncomfortable lump. I'll love it when the day comes I can just unlock and start my car with my phone. No longer having to carry any keys. Although I'd want the car to have a six digit pin code backup.

It’s all I’ve used for the past year and I really have enjoyed it. All I have in it right now is my ID and debit card but it can fit more than that.

hmmmm.... looks like I can do my bank card thru Apple's Wallet app.

Per the Costco app the physical card is still needed for fuel 😐

I dont use physical card for gas at costco. I have used Apple Wallet there!

I feel like three cards are not enough. I know most people say all you need is your driver’s license, debit, and a credit card. Everything else you can keep in your digital wallet. But what if your battery is dead or your phone breaks? You will have no access to… your gym membership, Costco, health insurance card. Or how about emergency situations where you are unconscious and someone needs to dig through your wallet in order to help you?

I know, I know…rare circumstances, but something to think about.

If you’re planning for such rare circumstances like being unconscious or your phone breaking… then of course that is a recipe for a giant wallet and 3 cards is not enough. Maybe some prefer a balance of having a few “lesser used” cards as well, but I would rather only have the necessities and leave the rest at home. Is it really worth carrying your gym card around all day for the off-chance you will want to go work out and notice your phone is dead?

in that case I will have my Apple Watch and I can use the cards from there in case! and also it has my medical ID as well and can help someone identify me(hopefully it won't happen).

Not sure what they’d need to find in my wallet if I’m unconscious. As they have my state ID for my info. They have to provide emergency care regardless. Although I’m pretty sure hospitals can find your insurance status with your ID only. I know Wellstar can.

Everything else is just a minor inconvenience until I get home and grab a backup phone. At worst would be on a rare vacation. Although I’d probably have more cards and cash with me on vacation or in my hotel room.

At any rate I’d get some cheap Android burner. In that highly unlikely scenario. Move over my SIM card or buy a cheap prepaid plan. Then connect to my password manager and manually input cards into Google Wallet.

While there is a rare chance of an inconvenience by not carrying all those cards. Perhaps wasting $50 on a cheap temp phone and plan. It’s better than the constant inconvenience of always carrying a fat, bulbous wallet.

Places like Costco or the gym. I could always go to customer service for a replacement card. If I didn’t want to drive home first. As I’d still have my ID.

i used to keep credit cards, my registration, and my checkbook in the glove compartment of my car. My car was stolen from the driveway of my home and on another occasion someone broke into my car at my doctors office by smashing the glass of my passenger side window and stole these items out of my glove compartment. The items were not even visibly easy to see in my glove compartment because I actually had them inside the owners manual which the thieves went through that and found them. As a result I’ve learned to never keep any of these items in your car. Was actually the Los Angeles police department that advised me to keep these items in my wallet and never leave them in my car. Am I no longer ever take my checkbook anywhere.

So to those forum readers who think it’s a good idea to leave these items in your, car you might want to think twice about that.

Ah, the car bit is really good. I've always thought in terms of keeping the wallet in the house, but but actually keeping the wallet with the rest of cards in the car would reduce the number of trips where I'd be missing something (still not eliminate for walks). The only issue would be the non-zero chance chance of a stolen car, which is higher than the non-zero chance of it getting stolen from my house.

Yep, it's always worked out really well for me. I can see my car from my window at the office and I park in a garage at night so break-ins are not really a concern.

I agree about keeping credit cards and a checkbook in the car. But the registration? As long as I have ever known the recommendation has been to keep that in the car. Not even sure what a thief could do with that if they stole it.

Would a drivers license, work ID, credit card and a $20 bill fit? I would get one if that works, or is there one that would work?

That would fit. My reg folds up about the same as a bill.

I recommend a $50 though ..... it's the new $20 lol

For me, depends on where I am going. If I am just running to the store or handling a quick errand, it does work for me.

I’ve been using the wallet since it came out, and upgraded to the new one with FindMy. In the wallet, I carry a drivers license, one credit card, and a couple of $50 bills. Everything else as far as purchases go is handled through the iPhone wallet app which includes my bank debit card, and several credit cards. I stopped carrying loyalty cards long ago, and instead I use the StoCard app for those. So far for me, only a few places do not take Apple Pay (looking at you Home Depot and Lowes!) and that’s when I use the credit card in my wallet. Insurance cards, including both health and automobile insurance, are handled through their respective apps. My car also uses the phone instead of a conventional key fob, so I don’t even carry that anymore.

When I travel, I will also carry a conventional wallet with a bunch of cash, mostly for tips. After all, most parking attendants, valets, maids, or doormen don’t take Apple Pay to Venmo… for some reason, a lot of young people forget that.

No wallet, no physical cards of any sort on a day to day basis.

I live in Denmark, everything is digital and everywhere accepts digital payment options such as Apple Pay.

Drivers license and social security card was digitised last year, so no need for a wallet any more.

My apple wallet is now in standby mode if I for some reason should need it after all. But hasn’t been used more than once this year.

I can't really get by with only 3. 4 would be ideal:
  1. DL
  2. Tesla key card (if the phone or phone app fails)
  3. Amex
  4. Visa (for places that don't take Amex)
I suppose I could get by without the Visa, but it feels like a severe compromise.

How are the options for MagSafe wallets so lacking a year out? I'm looking for one that can hold more cards and maybe another that also has a cash clip built into it but I haven't had much luck.

This is exactly what I do as well.
