I was told in store last week, that existing iPhone owners wishing to upgrade would be able to do so online...hopefully soon in that case, because here's the best bit:

** the new phone would be delivered on the day of launch **

Delivered OR dispatched? There is a difference (approx 3 days?)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

hopefully we will all get an email from o2 this week explaining what's going to happen. I've heard Thursday or Friday we will know.

I know you can change the phone before the contract ends. My point is that you have to do it online (minimum delay 3 days?).

They are doing this so that all the siny new ones in the store go to new customers on the 11th - they need new blood. Letting early adopters take them all from the stores on the 11th gives them no new revenue beyonf the capital receipts for the sale of the phone.

They want the £630 revenue stream generated by the new customer (assuming £35/month for 18 months)

Simple economics ;)

I agree with the maths... it's hard not to... however.. it would be very bad customer relations and I really doubt Apple would like the much!

if they don't provide some way for the early adopters to upgrade on the 11th then they will seriously dent their reputation both O2 and Apple.

After all it's the early adopters who've basically forced the fast turn around of the iphone. If we hadn't all gone out and bought it, it would be a flop and not a success!

if that is the case - then why when you phone O2 do they not say that?

Maybe because it's a call centre and not a retail outlet where they deal with customers face to face each day?

Whatever the reason, I just wish 02 would say something.

On another note, anybody worried that no reviews of the phone have been forthcoming so far? Is there an embargo on such reviews, or is the phone not up to much (heaven forbid!).

I wish I shared you belief in corporate humanity zed, but I don't.

Revenue, revenue, revenue. This iteration of the iPhone is going to be the break through one - early adaptors will be only a drop in the ocean

:rolleyes:Remember o2 are doing us a favor letting us existing iPhone customers sign up for another 18 months!

it's likely that the marriage of the phone and software has only just started to happen. The Software is still officially in development or only just gone Golden Master.

I would expect people to get their review phones this week.

I was told the same thing. Upgrades would be processed prior to the launch and dispatched on the 10th July for delivery the next day. Now to await o2 contacting me later this week :)

Alternatively the info could be incorrect and we'll all be :(

Haven't had anything through either yet... although (for good reasons) I'll be getting mine through Carphone Warehouse.

it's worth pointing out that O2's standard delivery service is DHL next day with a cut-off at 4pm. So there is a good chance that you can order the 3G iPhone on the Friday and receive it the next day.

Just received an SMS from O2…

As promised we are writing to keep you updated on the next steps to gettng iPhone 3G.

We will be writing to you again before the 11th with details about how to place your order…

We expect high demand… so orders will be processed on a first come first served basis so that we can be fair to all our customers. Orders will be limited to one iPhone 3G per customer.

etc.
For what it's worth… Nothing new there.

I am just off the phone to 02 and they don't have a clue about anything. They cannot setup a contract or anything cant even give good advice. On guy said u will need to order it on the day. They don't have a bludy clue about the iphone. They all just told me to register my interest and wait, Good advice !

There're a couple of threads worth a look about this, where people have been given decent advice in-store and have had this confirmed.

Thanks arkitect. Seriously, could O2 have sent a more pointless message? They are writing to you to tell you that soon they'll be writing to you. This is getting ridiculous. Where's the real information about this launch?

Embargo. Was the same last time.

Just got the same, pointless text message as I'm sure everyone else has got or is about to get.

are people receiving the texts current o2/iphone customers? only I signed up almost immediately and haven't got a text and a colleague who signed up long after has received it. (I'm an iPhone user, he isn't signed up to o2)

It's probably from the list of people who signed up on the 02 website asking for more information about the iphone. I might be done on time of registering or just random or sorted list of phone numbers...

Are we loosing it? -- just asking 'couse I guess I'm, rather moronic really, but whatever, you can only be a nerdy prat once, right?
