Wish we could, but Im too attached to my football and Walking Dead (which takes forever for the new episodes to get onto nextflix). But maybe if there were a good, reliable, free site for football streaming, I would consider dropping it.

I'm telling you if you're near a major city pick up a digital OTA antenna with amplifier. it picks up HD channels as long as it's aimed right and it's FREE!!!

I have cut my Cable TV service since starting to use the Apple TV but in the fall football will be starting back up. Does anyone have cable or satellite TV service that they turn on and off depending on what sports seasons are active?

Well DirecTV locks you in to a 2-year contract, so they are out. I mentioned it before, but if you live in NYC, Boston, or Atlanta check out www.aereo.com. It's $8/mo and you get your local channels. This would include CBS, FOX and NBC so you'll be able to see a majority of NFL games through this service. You can also check their "coming soon" page to see if they'll be launching in your area.

Again if you live in a city that Aereo has launched in, you could see a majority of the games. It was the primary reason I cut once it launched in Boston.

Also, you can buy a season pass to cover next day viewing of Walking Dead.

If you want to get the NFL package on ipad, iphone or computer all you have to do is get the latest Madden NFL 25th Anniversary for $100 and it includes a code for one year free of the NFL Sunday Ticket WITHOUT having to sign up for DirecTV. It will only work on computer, tablet or phone, and not on PS3 or X-box.

But I'm sure blackout restrictions still apply, which would mean you can't watch your local team. Of course I've been hearing about faking your IP address a lot on this thread, so maybe that's a non-issue.

News Flash: Moments ago I cut ties with ATT TV U-Verse:) A friend told my wife about the DTV Antennas, we went to Walmart and bought the model her friend has. I plugged it in, scanned, and voila' we have local stations.

So now with the DTV antenna and Apple TV she is happy with setup and will save over $140 a month.

Again thank you to all for all the wonderful tech info you've provided.

THAT is what I'm talkin about!!!

And the HD picture we are getting is better than any picture we've ever gotten with U-Verse. True, ever now and then we get little blimp, but other than that so far so good.

I think all is gonna be good.

So tonight we started streaming NBC's So You Think You Have Talent. It started fine, then all of a sudden it started to skip, freeze, etc.

What might be thecause of this? It streamed fine last night.

It could be a lot of things. What are your downloads speeds through your isp? Are you wired to the ATV or using wifi?

It's "America's Got Talent"...and you're not really "streaming" with an antenna, you're picking up over the air signals, so it shouldn't be a function of your network speed.....could be the station was having issues with its feed or maybe weather in your area?

by "streaming" do you mean over the air or over your network?

With Netflix and Hulu Plus on the Apple TV, I'm strongly considering it. Directv is great and all, but I never use it as I'm always traveling.

I'm pretty certain you could meet over 90% of your needs with OTA, Netflix, and Hulu Plus.

Has anyone else done this or is taking this into consideration?

haven't had cable/sat TV for almost 6 years. it's outdated and absurd. i don't need 500 channels - i "need" maybe 10...
netflix, hulu and the rest of the internet is all we need. the only thing i miss is sports around March but even then our high def antenna picks that up fine.

a la carte television selection, it's the future. evolve or die Time Warner, Rogers et al.

I have an OTA antenna so I already get CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC fine. I was more referring to college football, which has a lot of games on ESPN networks, B1G, Fox Sports stations, CBS Sports stations. With all the TV contract and conference rearranging, I'm not even sure what stations will be showing which teams. PAC-12 network? Texas Longhorn network?

I know sometimes games are available on WatchESPN (ESPN 3) but are there any other options?

My wife went to the NBC.com site, picked the program, started it on her Air Book, and hit the little mirror to ATV icon. LOL, It is America's Got Talent, LOL, heck I don't even know the name of the shows!!!!

I'd wager your computer chocked up with running Adobe Flash - I could be wrong though ...

hmmmm well get the antenna working then no need to stream!!!

You know, that is a real possibility if the computer is older. It's also possible that the NBC website servers were heavily loaded by demand. Doesn't matter if you have 50MBps download if the sites servers can only fee out 20kbps. I would check out other sites like Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, Vimeo....whatever and see if this a problem you see no matter where you go or was a specific site (maybe specific night) problem.

Question for you. You said you bought an antennae and have your locals? Why wouldn't you just watch the program that way? Do you not get NBC through your antennae?

Also I don't think the hardware is a problem as she did it from a MacBook Air that allows AirPlay. That is a relatively new feature that only works on newer machines.

Yeah, college football would be a different beast. Not sure of any alternatives to watch those.

Many channels offer earlier shows. So we watched the Wednesday night episode via the DTV antenna; then she wanted to watch Tuesday nights episode. So she went to NBC.com, you know the rest of the story!!!

So far, regardless of last nights experience, all seems to be well. It's gonna be a learning curve.

Remember, you don't need cable to watch most cable shows.

Shows like Walking Dead can be purchased on a per-episode basis, commercial-free.

I buy mine via Amazon Video via subscription, which pushes them down automatically to my Tivo.

Most shows I watch, however, are still recorded from OTA.

Quick testimony! My wife and the kids agreed to live without cable a few days ago and everything has been completely smooth. We upgraded our FIOS Internet speed and just yesterday we noticed that via the IPad Mobile App TV Shows can still be viewed. It might be a loop hole or just an anomaly from yesterday but my wife was able to watch the BET Awards through it. Unfortunately AirPlay didnt work but she was content with being able to watch an Awards show while everyone ranted about it on FB.

Thinking about trying this. My wife and I watch a few mainstream shows but football in the fall is a big one. Maybe I can cancel in the football off season and pay comcast during the season lol
