Thinking about trying this. My wife and I watch a few mainstream shows but football in the fall is a big one. Maybe I can cancel in the football off season and pay comcast during the season lol

Nfl game pass + Apple TV + idevice to AirPlay from. Solution to the football problem

----------

I put the DNS numbers into my mini , but still no go after a reset

Into your mini? It needs to be on your router. Do u mean you used your mini to access your router and set it up there?

This was also a concern of mine, but I bought a Mohu Leaf antenna to get OTA local HD channels which in turn gives me Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc. All if which gives me my local home team. If they play on ESPN for a Sunday/Monday night game, you can enter in a shared login from a friend/family member to access the Watch ESPN app. OR, the NFL.com yearly pass if you need all games.

There are plenty if options ;D

Mine are usually pushed down in the early AM after the night they show.

So if it shows 10pm Thursday it gets pushed down to my Tivo between 1 and 6 AM Friday.

Do the most recent episodes from that week show up the same week or the week after? Is there a big delay?

To clear things up as I may not have been clear. I have unblock us setup on my router so that my Apple TV app things it's in the states, enabling American Netflix and Hulu. For MLB and NHL, it lifts any blackout restrictions. I am in Canada so I do not have chess to the native nba app, and instead stream from the international gametime app. It airplays to my atv just fine, and if there is a blackout for a game, I turn hotspot shield on and circumvent it. For NFL there is no ATV app, nor an Nfl game pass app it canada or the us, but there is in the uk. With a uk account I downloaded the app, and stream games fto my atv. For this unblock us lifts blackouts

I sent you a PM also, but feel free to ignore that and just reply here. Some questions:

1) I understand that I need unblock US in order to actually watch the NFL games, but do I also need to first subscribe to unblock US just to be able to create the iTunes UK account?

2) How do I pay for apps on my iTunes UK account? Can I tie it to my US address and credit card or do I need to somehow tie it to a prepaid credit card or UK PayPal account or something?\

3) Does the AirPlay functionality require AirPlay *Mirroring* (which I find to be choppy when sending video to the TV - and I think the aspect ratio gets lopped off as well) or does the app have built-in AirPlay functionality which allows the Apple TV to buffer the content and keep it playing smooth and full-screen?

Just a quick update. So far a few weeks into no U-Verse, things are good. Wife hasn't complained so I'm happy!

Sports keeps me from it. It's not just NFL but it's a big one and there is a work around there. I'm a big motorsports fan and going without Formula One and Nascar is not going to happen.

I'll respond here instead of pm for the sake of future readers

1. You can create a uk iTunes account without any software.
2. You don't need any credit card or prepaid card as you will sign up without one, and the nfl app is free. I believe you need to sign up on a computer as opposed to idevice to not have to use a card
3. There is built in AirPlay functionality, wouldn't do it if it was mirroring.

I have a large Terk antenna in the attic that I have to move to get NBC, when I move it I lose ABC and vice versa, do you guys think the MOHU might be better?

Doubt it. A large antenna should work better. Depending on what you mean by large, I guess. How far are you away from the source?

I'm not having any luck on that front. Tried setting up an account through the iTunes app on my laptop and it's forcing me to enter a credit card. What do I do?

News Flash: Moments ago I cut ties with ATT TV U-Verse:) A friend told my wife about the DTV Antennas, we went to Walmart and bought the model her friend has. I plugged it in, scanned, and voila' we have local stations.

So now with the DTV antenna and Apple TV she is happy with setup and will save over $140 a month.

Again thank you to all for all the wonderful tech info you've provided.

Congrats thats an awesome feeling to experience I know how it felt when I cut U verse. Little trick I've used to save even more. I try to stock up on itunes gift cards when they go on sale and only purchase my Apple TV content when I have them. By the way Best Buy has a sale right now.

Update: I got this sorted out after a bit of Googling. The trick is to fire up iTunes, log out of your existing account, then attempt to download a free app from within the iTunes app. At that point, choose to create a new account, and go through the setup process. At the credit card screen, you'll have the option of choosing "None". If you attempt to create a new account out of the blue without first attempting to download a free app, the "None" option won't be there.

But I guess I have a new question now...

I'll still need to sign up for an account on gamepass.nfl.com. I can't even access that site right now because of my location, but I know that unblock US will handle that. But in order to sign up I have to pay for the subscription. Will it allow me to do so with a US address and credit card? If not, how do I get around that part of it?

Update 2: More Googling suggests that I'll be able to use my US credit card / billing address to sign up for the NFL GamePass account. This makes sense if the service is designed to accommodate military people overseas and such.

So one more question regarding GamePass...

Have they already put the pricing up for this year? Since I haven't (yet) signed up for unblock US I can't access their web page. I'm curious to know how expensive it is. If someone can post all of the packages/prices that would be great, but the one I'd be most interested in is probably the one that lets you see all teams but doesn't include playoff games (since I'll be able to get those via cable).

Prices went way up, 175 to follow a team, 205 for regular season, 275 for season plus (access until next July, including playoffs and Super Bowl). Allin CAD

Thanks. I assume you're quoting US dollars. This does leave me wondering if I might want to consider instead getting that Madden game for $100 which includes the NFL Sunday Ticket access, and then combining that with the US-available NFL GameRewind. 2013 pricing for that is currently $30 for one team, $40 for all teams, and $70 for Season Plus (which includes Playoffs & Superbowl and the ability to access everything until next July).

I could probably be happy with the $40 option plus $100 for Madden, and then still turn around and sell the actual Madden game, saving even more. I'm under the impression that NFL Sunday Ticket does not feature AirPlay support, but doesn't block AirPlay Mirroring. Still, I'd probably opt to just plug my MBA into my TV via HDMI. I'd be interested to know how the bitrate/PQ compares between NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL Game Rewind.

Update: In case there are any other NFL GameRewind subscribers out there who are thinking of doing things differently this year...I just noticed that my NFL GameRewind subscriptions was set to auto-renew (on 8/1 - just a few days away). At least for this year, there was no pricing advantage to keep it this way.

The terk is about 4 ft X 4ft and the sources(at least where the stations are located) are 20 and 50 miles away.

The 20 mile distance should be good with the MOHU, but I think the Terk should be fine at that distance also. 50 is real iffy. The Terk is a good antenna and you have it pretty high. If it's not picking up the things you want I doubt the MOHU would do better. I have found that positioning is critical with the MOHU. MY stations are about 40 miles away and I am "on the fringe". I have it in my basement (so it's about ground level) and I can move it a few inches this way or that and lose or gain reception. I had to really play with it to find that sweet spot. Even then, reception can sometimes be spotty depending on weather. If you want to try it, buy it directly from MOHU, they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and have been really good with me on returns. I tried the amplified version (which did nothing for me in terms of additional signal strength) and returned it, no problem.

I have used the suggested website for antenna requirements. And it was pretty conservative in estimating what I need. Well maybe not. With an outside antenna (what it said I needed), I would probably get a lot better signal than with the MOHU.

NFL Gamepass

I would recommend checking out UnoTelly for DNS proxy services. In paticular they offer access to HBO Nordic and NFL Game Pass via the Netherlands which reportedly is available for free. http://www.unotelly.com/blog/2013/06/how-to-get-nfl-gamepass-for-free/

If you would rather not subscribe to a DNS proxy, I would suggest looking at Madden 25 Anniversary edition which will include a unique code to access the 2013 regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL Sunday Ticket on computers, tablets, and mobile devices- including access to the award-winning Red Zone Channel. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_376741782_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1001215841&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=0AFDEMMBJJ3FWHQVHNFN&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1557458362&pf_rd_i=B00CF7KVMI

Don't assume that.....since he said "Allin CAD"....I assume he meant "all in Canadian Dollars"
Thanks, I missed that. Not a big difference at the current conversion rate.

FWIW, I decided to go ahead and buy Madden 25. I will still likely look into some of the GamePass options talked about, but at least this way I'll have a legit backup.

We dropped it about 1.5 years ago. Netflix and Hulu Plus take care of most of our TV viewing. We tend to follow most of the Network shows. There are a few shows such as Falling Skies and Walking Dead that we watch, but iTunes Season Pass takes care of that.

As others have said the live sports is the only issue, but we are not big Live sports watchers, so having an OTA on each TV solves that problem as well as giving us live news etc.

If it weren't for the kids I'd probably drop Netflix as well as newer movies don't come out as often. If the aTV would get Amazon Prime that'd be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
