My company blackberry was my first smartphone and I had it for years. Eventually I got tired of its limitations and bought my own Galaxy S3. Had it for a year, but got frustrated with android apps.

I've always used an ipod touch and itunes for listening to my audiobooks and podcasts. My ipod's battery was dying and so I switched to the S3 as a media player. The lack of itunes syncing was a huge pain for me, and the fact that the podcast and audiobook apps were piss poor, even compared to Apple's built-in apps.

I switched to an iphone 5 after a year and never looked back. I was also able to type messages faster using apple's autocorrect compared to the swype or swiftkey on android.

Sounds like most of the people in this thread SHOULD stay on iOS. Not because iOS is better than any other OS, but because iOS is familiar, family use it and/or you have opted to create an Apple-centric ecosystem. These are all perfect reasons.

That said Android and Windows Phones running the latest versions of their OS's (KitKat 4.4.4 and WP8.1) are great too, especially if you are running Windows 8 PC's.

I happen to use all 3 OS's daily, along with Windows 8 and OSX and like all of them for various reasons. If someone asks me for advice on what they should buy, I find out what they want in a phone, what their tech abilities are, and what kind of an ecosystem they have at home. In other words, Apple is not always the answer.

the question is "have u ever been that guy"

obviously, u're not - end of story. don't needa hear the rest.

I burned through phones like paper for a while. Went from a no-name semi-smartphone to the iPhone 2g, then 3G, then 3GS. Got bored with the 3GS, switched to Android. Got a Droid, than an HTC EVO 4G, stuck with that for a while and actually switched back to the iPhone for the 4S. Had a scuffle with AT&T so I sold that and switched to Sprint. I got a Note 2 with them. Switched over to T-Mobile and got a Galaxy S4. Hated it and sold it for an iPhone 5S. At that point I felt like I had enough of Android, and I was becoming disenchanted with Google in general. Now I'm sticking to a new iPhone each year through Jump. Saves me time and hassle and I know I'm going to get a great phone out of it each year.

I suppose my question is; have any of your friends/family tried switching to a different phone after having an iPhone, and regretted it? Or have you tried switching personally and regretted it?

I advised my friends/family that told me that they were switching that they will regret it (they told me that I would be wrong, and that it isn't cool being "that guy"), and ironically, I was right every time.

I'm the smartphone geek that all my friends and family come to for advice. Even though I personally use an iPhone I don't try to sway the person either way. Android, just like iOS, has come a long way and is a good OS that can suit the needs of different people. Either one can work it's just a matter of getting familiar with the OS and putting in the time to find answers to issues or needs that might come up.

I'll explain:

I have had an iPhone since the very beginning, in fact, the iPhone was my very first smart phone. Because of this, switching to a different phone has been out of the question.

Edit: Yes, wrong situation to use the word "ironically". It's been a long day, give a guy a break!
We have been the opposite. My entire family started out as android users. Over the past few years, since just before the 4s was released, we've migrated to Apple. Only one left to convert. She's being stubborn lol. "When Apple makes an HTC phone... let me know". Those are her words lol.

OP, I'm the same way. First smartphone I ever owned was the original iPhone, and I've been with them ever since, except one instance.

I wanted a larger screen, and threw a mini temper tantrum after the introduction of the 4S, so I went and bought a Galaxy SII. So many little things that worked seamlessly on the iPhone were not there on Android at the time without serious patching and work arounds.

That experiment lasted about 10 days, and I went back to the iPhone and bought the 4S a short time later and have been on iPhones ever since.

I would like to think I'm not so brand loyal that I wouldn't move to another device and operating system if Apple drops the ball, but given all my history with them, they would REALLY have to drop the ball in order for me to go elsewhere.
