No, not really. I had a Sony Vaio desktop when I had my HP laptop which was very good as the laptop would crash at random and became useless. But since I've gotten my MBP, I dumped the Vaio and the HP and I have never looked back. The screen is a great size for me right now and I like being able to move it around so easily. I bought the iLap so I will sit and surf the web in the living room and chat it up with my family.

Having the Bluetooth mouse is really nice because the only thing that bothers me about laptops (not often, but sometimes) are trackpads. I miss the old Apple trackballs in their laptops, but of course, those are outdated and had their drawbacks, too.

The graphics card in the MBP is no doubt better than the one in the MB, but I haven't wanted for anything display-wise using the MB with the 24" HP. For what I do (Photoshop, Web, Mail, Excel, Word, etc.), the graphics card in the MB leaves me wanting for nothing.... even with the 24" HP display. For what applications would one notice the difference in graphics cards?

I would love to have a MBpro, but for the money I didn't see enough return for my needs... perhaps after the new ones come out and have been out for awhile, I may upgrade... in the meantime, I'm absolutely thrilled with the new MacBook 2.2GHz.

yeh i wish i had a desktop when im doing photoshop on my macbook it gets to 73-90c lol

Never ever ever. I will never buy a desktop for myself for as long as I live. Laptops are the only way I roll.

I hate the fact that I need a laptop. I hate the fact that I am regulated to an inferior machine at often double the cost just so I can drag the thing around once a week or so. I have no need to use a computer in the bed, on the sofa, in the shower, whilst running or any of the other ridiculous things that have appeared in this thread. If you need to check email, find something etc whilst watching television, just get up off of your arse and go to the computer. It's easy and actually good for you.

Oh to have a desktop. Laptops are for road warriors and students. Proper adults need desktops. Otherwise it's a combination of financial irresponsibility and laziness...

;)

macbook pro + 24" display (LG L246WP) + bluetooth keyboard + wireless mouse = win

it spends about 50% of its time on a desk and 50% mobile

and to all those people that want a dock...i have 5 wires plugged into the laptop..takes about 10 seconds to plug in........

Easy to make your own hub for a laptop/desktop docking station. 24" HP monitor plugs into the MacBook DVI. I have a hub that has numerous USB 2.0 & Firewire ports... I run one USB and one Firewire line from the hub to the MacBook and everything else (three Firewire drives, USB iPod, USB printer) plugs into the hub. Easy. Done. Great set-up!

Okay, I'll bite. For the OP: I have a MBP w/ACD and love the combo. Just took the MBP on the road for a month and it was perfect - then came home to my 23" display and loved that also. Can't beat the 2 capabilities in one.

To the preacher: Now I also have a Touch, and I can check my mail or look something up on the web while reading or watching TV. So I don't have to move from my Barcalounger. That 20-foot round trip would, I admit, take off 10 pounds or so over the course of a year, but the convenience of not having to put my notes/book/paper down and then pick them up again is real. And of course putting the beer down is another thing altogether....

I couldn't do without a laptop... I tried... but why try when it can just be both?

When I'm at home, laptop hooks into the monitor/keyboard and mouse and away I go. For meetings, I typically need my laptop so I unhook the peripherals and tada. I have all my working files right where I left them ready to show my client or work on at any time. My computer typically has Photoshop, Illustrator, Coda, Flash, Safari, Firefox, Mail and iTunes running at all times and sure sometimes I want more RAM... but that's my own fault... I'm only running 2 gigs. Maybe if I was into video editing, I would be singing a different tune, but for web development... a laptop is all I personally need.

It can function as a desktop... maybe not as fast as a Mac Pro... but oh well. I can handle the seconds and milliseconds difference that all these wonderful benchmarks show us.

I've been tempted... but reason always takes over.
