I have been on varying types of forums. Some dealing with cars some dealing with antique tractors and other various types of forums but most seem to have the same problem with a few people that jump all over someone for asking a question that has been answered before. I have use the search before but some topics, like this thread are just asking for opinions and possibly just wanting to interact with others on the forums. I have noticed that there is a corelation between forums that have more of an older member like the antique tractor forum. They seem more tolerant and helpful. Besides all this, his title was pretty specific. I surprised that anyone had trouble figuring out what his title was saying. Actually I should have ignored the criticisms like most everone else did but I didn't.
What you are seeing now is the new title after it was modified. The original title was something like "what do you think?" or something similar. At the time of my post... he had thanked GGJ for recommendations... but never went back and fixed the title. Only later did he fix the title to the admittedly great title that is currently in place.

I don't miss it as I have shared an optical drive over the network here. All my other pc's have optical drives and besides my main pc they rarely get used

no

I thought I would but with the dvd to cd sharing available with my iMac and using my LaCie flash drive to transfer movies and files, not missing the optical drive so far.

I might be one of those people who opts for an external optical drive in the future given my current movie/cd/software situation. Right now though, it's all good :)

Sorry. I jumped the gun.

Haven't used a DVD or CD since I got high speed internet years ago. Haven't regretted it at all, in fact, I'm loving the weight reduction from its absence.

Weight and size reduction is a big plus. If you really need a CD / DVD just move the ISO / or the data on flash drive and burn / copy. I have needed DVD only one in the last one year. I just wish that we can upgrade 8gb RAM on MBA or get a bigger disk at a reasonable $$$.

mirror what others have said, not needed it. amazing how far the internet has got us

I picked up a cheap CD/DVD drive from Asus when I got my Air. I keep it at my desk, never take it with me. I've used it to watch DVD's three or four times, but I'd definitely be able to live without it. Most things are available online to stream or torrent anyway, if you're willing to dig around for a few minutes.
